It’s one thing to teach an entire scene the BOOM dance, it’s another to keep up the same high level for its follow-up. An easy task for Australia’s MaRLo, who heads for the dark side of trance with ‘The Future’.

Ever walking the fine line of trance, techno and all else that feeds his musical passion, Marlo Hoogstraten has found his own sound in-between. Making a remarkable rise to fame in these past 4 years, the Dutch-born producer further builds his legacy, already shaped by the sounds of ‘The Island’, ‘Jaguar’, ‘BOOM’ and ‘Megalodon’.

Amsterdam Trance Records is one of the most influential trance labels at the moment with many success stories in their pocket. The brand new release is not an exception of course. Somna & Yang collaborate with Noire Lee on vocal duties for the massive Till Oblivion. The original mix moves in the progressive trance territory with chunky tech housey beats, electro inspired basslines and great warm cinematic strings on top. Noire Lee has magnificent voice and her performance has that indie rock quality that stands out straight away and attract your attention to stop whatever you doing and listen to what  she has to say in her deep meaningful lyrics. Daniel Skyver is on remix duties and he transforms the original into an epic hands in the air uplifting euphoric trancer. Feel good from the very start till its end is a powerful production that will please all the pure trance followers who love vocal trance with head banging beats, driving energetic punchy basslines and in the long and teasing atmospheric breakdown euphoric synthy stabs to clean the mind and offer you a wide smile in your face. His climax will carry your soul away to fly up and away so be prepared to experience an emotional turnmoil that melancholy and happiness will be in constant struggle. Daniel remix is one of his finest and big highlight in his career. The package includes dub mixes as well for the non vocal lovers but the voice of Noire Lee is not to be missed. Highly recommended.

First State – Full Circle

In a comparatively short time frame Holland’s Sander van der Waal released his debut album on In Trance We Trance, before changing lanes for the new creative aesthetic of its Magik Muzik follow-up. Now, in 2014, he completes that initial three-album arc with ‘Full Circle’. For this new long-player, the spectrum of Van der Waal’s compound sound becomes ever yet more expansive. Frequency hopping across genre bands - often inside the confines of a single track, it beguiles the audiophile by exploring the EDM route less travelled. The only predictable feature of ‘Full Circle’ is its entire lack of predictability!

Also along for this sonic ride, he’s brought many a standout vocalist, to the album, with performances by international singer-songwriters including Eric Lumiere, Sarah Howells, Relyk, Tyler Sherritt and others. Never knowing exactly what’s around the corner has rarely provided such a thrall-ish, edge-of-the-seat type listening experience!
On the release of his third album, Sander stated: “‘Full Circle’ represents my journey as an artist and song composer, as I feel this album stands for the completion of an era and my development as an artist. With this album I’ve followed my heart and some songs took days while others took weeks or sometimes even months. Even though an album is never finished for a producer until it leaves it’s studio, the same goes for a circle as it has no beginning nor and ending.”

Artistically, ‘Full Circle’ drops its first compass point with the vocoderizing ministrations of ‘I Need Your Love’ - its analogue MOOG-isms bestowing a Mylo-esque driven groove and floor-sense to ‘Full Circle’s onset.

Further in, Sander reunites with the first of several ‘Changing Lanes’ vocal alumni. Paper Aeroplanes front-woman Sarah Howells brings first vocal anthemia to ‘Skies On Fire’, and further in laments the loss of a love supreme on the TKO of ‘Seeing Stars’. Her acoustics initially come accompanied by flecked guitar and pianoforte, before Sander roguishly diverts and subverts them, rolling the snares and space-shot synth lines in underneath.
Another ‘Changing Lanes’ returnee is songstress Kyler ‘Relyk’ England, who etches her soulful burn onto First State’s 3rd. Last heard ruling on Tiësto’s ‘Take Me’ in 2013, she brings her tones and inescapably catchy and empathetic lyrics to ‘Take The Fall’, as Sander stokes the production engine with trance-fired synthery.
Equally accomplished in its vocal-free regions, First State’s instrumentals bring ‘Full Circle’ further sonic grades and shades. An unexpectedly soulful spin to the EDM sound on ‘Lourdes’; old-skool M1 piano uplift on ‘World’s Apart’ and an astonishing sound collage of violins and tech-through-elec grind on ‘Anunnaki’ all interconnect its vocal numbers.

Be in no doubt, the moment you think you have ‘Full Circle’s genre categorized, it will delight in confounding you! Eternally toughened by retro-futuristic chemical FX, ‘Humanoid’ blows back in consciously knockabout fashion to Daft Punk’s ‘Robot Rock’. ‘One Push’ meanwhile aces unchecked frenetic festival-ism: think an on-acid Tangerine Dream or Moroder’s ‘Tony’s Theme’ in a head-on electrode collision with Erol Alkan.
Elsewhere Y chromosome vocalists are every bit as well represented. Across a deuce of tracks, US singer/songwriter Tyler Sherritt further broadens ‘Full Circle’s vocal spread with some indie-rock elements and edges. Introspection, vocal contemplation and lyrical existentialism are quick to hand on ‘Maze’ and ‘I’ll Never Die’. Just as fine is the floor illumination of ‘Glow’, which features the vocals and lyrics of Eric ‘Anthem’/’Love Will Bring It Back Around’ Lumiere.
Drawing on sonic stylistic influences and inspirations from dance music and way, way beyond, ‘Full Circle’ brings a new track collection-come-expedition that through eclectic, amazing tangents and curves, grips the attention from primary beat to terminal point. It’s out March 3rd through Magik Muzik.

The story started not so many years ago in 2008 with Tiesto picking up on Sander van Dien's emerging production talent of the back of such smash hits as 'Falling'. Taking the name First State and signing to Black Hole Music, Sander has never looked back and two artist albums later he continues to provide massive smash hits that rock dancefloors the world over. Whether its his eagerly awaited tracks with Sarah Howells such as Reverie, Skies on Fire or the hugely popular mashups coined affectionately as 'Bashups' that rock the likes of Armin van Buuren or Afrojack's sets; Sander is a consistent producer of massive dance floor pleasing anthems. Morphing the First State sound over the last two albums the last twelve months have seen a more underground, housier edge emerge alongside the big riffs, breakdowns and luscious vocals we have come to love from the studio in Holland.

With such chart topping tracks like ' My Sanctuary', 'Cross the Line' and 'Your Own Way' it is no surprise that First State has been in huge demand as a DJ and performer. Having performed at such legendary venues as the O2 in London and Privilege in Ibiza as part of Tiesto's world tour early on, First State has gone on to carve out a name as a quality and in demand headliner the world over. Tours of Asia and the Far East, Australia, North America, India and Africa go hand in hand with some of the biggest and best clubs and festivals from the likes of Ministry of Sound, Gatecrasher, Miami Winter Music Conference, the Offical Istanbul Formula 1 party and A State of Trance to name but a few.
