What does it feel like to lose hope that you have significance in the world? This song is an interview with a hypothetical old man who is headed over that cliff.

Often when I write, I'm trying to create music that sounds "normal" and "accessible", and I'm trying to make a "point" with my music. With this song I decided to throw caution to the wind and not worry if it was normal or accessible, and just have fun! For that reason, this is probably one of the more artsy songs I've created. Self-expression for its own sake! The lyrics are almost stream of consciousness... I just kind of let it come out like it wanted to, without much editing other than organizing into verses and choruses and trying to make it rhyme (sort of).

The music itself is built over a drum loop from an old Boss drum machine, and a ludicrously sped up loop from an old Mellotron library. It's heavily inspired by classic new wave Steve Taylor tracks. All of the vocals are me... I tried every trick I could think of to make it sound like the different characters (the  narrator, the old man, the snide commentary, the weird pseudo-calypso banana boat vocals, and even the left shoulder/right shoulder "conscience" halfway through) might have been played by different people - not sure I succeeded in all instances!
