FITZCARRALDO RECORDS is an independent record label born in Palermo to give a shape the expressive urgency of a new generation of improvisers convinced of the need for a proposal truly creative and open to all musical languages. An ambitious project that is the natural evolution of a movement of artists who believe in a new way of making music. FITZCARRALDO Records was born as an act of resistance to assert and defend our identity as musicians, to testify that a different musical and cultural alternative is possible.

Fitzcarraldo is not the usual indipendent label but present itself as a real opportunity for the musicians involved and for their projects that are accurately selected in order to follow a precise and coherent aesthetic line.

The name of the label inspired by the legendary title of the film by Werner Herzog, whose star, Klaus Kinski in the role of Brian Sweeney Fitzgerald, or Fitzcarraldo, has the dream to build an Opera Theater in the Amazon rainforest. The film touches the apex in a symbolic phrase for the designers of the label: “With the faith of a mustard seed, you can move a mountain.”
The main statement of this label is to push, promote and give a chance to a new generation of talented musicians who are able to propose original projects and, in general, is focused on any kind of contemporary composed or improvised music.

In  seven years FITZCARRALDO RECORDS has produced eight CD greeted with enthusiasm by critics and reviewed by the most prestigious magazines (JazzIt, Jazz Colo[u]rs, All About Jazz USA, Suono, Sentire Ascoltare, Downtown Music Gallery New York, Rumore, Il Giornale della Musica, Jazzitalia etc.), establishing itself as one of the most interesting among the new independent Italian labels. 

The creative project is also reflected from the point of view of design. The packaging of the CD is patented by the same label and we are proud to use only deluxe papers and boards made from enviromentally friendly E.C.F. (elemental chlorine free) pure cellulose, without any kind of adhesive.

La FITZCARRALDO RECORDS è un’etichetta discografica indipendente palermitana nata per dare forma all’urgenza espressiva di una nuova generazione di improvvisatori convinti della necessità di una proposta autenticamente creativa e aperta a tutti i linguaggi musicali. Un progetto ambizioso che è la naturale evoluzione di un movimento di artisti che credono in un modo nuovo di fare musica.

FITZCARRALDO RECORDS nasce come atto di resistenza per affermare e difendere la nostra identità di musicisti, per testimoniare che esistono alternative musicali e culturali.

In sette anni di attività FITZCARRALDO RECORDS ha prodotto otto CD, accolti con entusiasmo dalla critica e recensiti dalle più prestigiose riviste di settore (JazzIt, Jazz Colo[u]rs, All About Jazz USA, Suono, Sentire Ascoltare, Downtown Music Gallery New York, Rumore, Il Giornale della Musica, Jazzitalia etc.) e da importanti testate nazionali (Terra, Internazionale, il Manifesto), affermandosi come una delle realtà più interessanti tra le nuove etichette indipendenti italiane. 

Il nome dell’etichetta prende spunto dal titolo del leggendario film di Werner Herzog, il cui protagonista, Klaus Kinski nel ruolo di Brian Sweeny Fitzgerald, ovvero Fitzcarraldo, ha il sogno di costruire un teatro dell’opera in Amazzonia. La pellicola tocca l’apice in una massima simbolica per gli ideatori dell’etichetta: "Con la fede di un granello di senape, è possibile spostare una montagna."

Il progetto creativo della FITZCARRALDO RECORDS si concretizza anche dal punto di vista del DESIGN. Il packaging dei CD, brevettato dalla stessa etichetta, è infatti realizzato in cartoncino eco-compatibile con un sistema ad incastri senza utilizzo di colle o altri adesivi, riducendo cosi' al minimo i residui inquinanti.
