After the very successful “64 Ways” Ep that we released earlier this summer we are ready for more Detroit Swindle “Boxed Out” goodness. The boys have selected some of their fave producers to Lay their hands on four originals from the album.
First up is Mr. Freerange himself, Jamie Odell, who delivers a typical deep and fresh sounding reinterpretation of B.Y.O. under his Jimpster moniker. It’s a true house jam as only he can build it wit a great “Live” feeling. This is followed by MRSK from Sweden who you might know from his excellent releases on “Rush Hour”, “Skudge” or “Sushitech”. He boosts the banging “He’s Just This Guy, You Know?” to even higher levels with a raw Disco and Funk infusion.

The B side opens with Germany’s finest “Cuthead” who has just released his debut album on “Uncanny Valley” and who has been a huge inspiration to the boys in the past years, we are very glad that he drops his great skills on the smooth “Me, Myself & You” track.

Closing off is non other than legendary Baltimore producer Karizma aka Kaytronik, it’s a great honour for us to have such an influential producer on this EP and his take on the album Hip Hop jam “For The Love Of...” is something special. Crystal clear Techno/ House beats with deep subs and the cut up vocal from the original turn this remix into something very special and timeless.

Cuthead - All night long

Brand new from Brazil. "Batuque é Reza Forte" showcases the beautiful warmth and energy of Brazil's best kept secret, singer, composer, producer and radio presenter, Arícia Mess. This soulful samba features the voice and a little composing assistance from the legendary  Brazilian singer and composer, Dona Onete, aka  "Queen of Carimbó", and on guitar, Aleh Ferreira, frontman of legendary Brazilian funk band Banda Black Rio. Taken from forthcoming album, 'Versos do Mundo'.

About "Batuque é reza forte", Arícia says: "I have a radio program on internet, I spent the last three years travelling in Europe singing, doing shows and recording interviews in Berlin, Paris, Portugal and London. When I was in London I met Dona Onete for one interview, but she fooled me into it (LOL). She started talking about something else, about my work as a composer, she started singing melodies, saying that she was doing it for me! That is the recording that you hear at the beginning of the song. I ask her: "are you composing this song now?". She replies: "that’s for you!" Then I scream! So, there was no interview, and that's how Batuque is a Strong Prayer was born. I took the parts when she sings and used her voice in the recording (with the freshness of the moment of composition); the rest of the song I composed later while traveling through England. The recording of that moment, when she sings and improvises extracts of the song is what makes Batuque is a strong prayer a jewel."

"Queen of psyco-quilombolas, radical batuques...Afro-shock-chic", Brazilian with righteous black pride, Arícia sings in praise of the natural forces of womanhood, notably the Afro-Brazilian woman. In her own unique way, she recreates the links between Africa and Brazil. Aricia has a peculiar yet powerful, refined and captivating voice.

MIMS is absolutely stoked to premiere this incredible Afro-cosmic broken beat remix by Afronaut, legendary pioneer of the broken sound, and keyboard whizz & producer extraordinaire Mark de Clive-Lowe, for upcoming producer, Fradinho. Set for release on his own newly minted Eclectic Beats Music.

A Portuguese native, DJ, producer and video artist, Rui Fradinho has resided in London for many years, soaking up every faint whiff of broken beat the city had to offer. The wheels have long been in motion, but since his recent return to Portugal, Fradinho has announced the launch of his own Eclectic Beats Music imprint, with one of his first compositions, "A Bright Future", complemented by remixes from the aforementioned Afronaut & Mark de Clive-Lowe, alongside Karmasound, LSK, Born74  and Szajna. 


Afronaut’s remix of Fradinho’s "A Bright Future" adds that percussive broken beat stamp that he is well known for, whilst the estimably talented Mark de Clive-Lowe supplies a cosmic touch with his keys, synths and synth bass. 

Picking up some of the elements of the original mix, Afronaut delivers a steady and syncopated beat groove that is perfectly complemented by the keyboard textures and flourishes that Mark de Clive-Lowe has been long been celebrated for. 

This remix also marks the long-awaited return of Orin "Afronaut" Walters to music production duties. Long established, not only as a founding member of the Bugz In The Attic collective, but also for his own solo work as Afronaut, on labels such as Bitasweet, Apollo (R&S) & Afro Art, and as one third of the legendary Neon Phusion (with Kaidi Tatham & Alex Phountzi). In recent years, Orin has nurtured new producers driving the bruk revival and veterans running on a victory lap, via his own CoOperation Recordings, with releases from WheelUP, Ben Hauke, Marc Mac and Planetself

London band The Fantastics! return to BBE Music with instrumental jazz-dance masterpiece ‘Pyramid’, the second single to be taken from their forthcoming album ‘Take A Shot’.

‘Pyramid’ was born fully formed in the musical mind of the groups’ saxophonist & flautist Mark Norton – an ethereal instrumental that’s 50% contemplative spiritual introspection à la Pharoah Sanders / Coltrane /Airto Moreira, 50% prime Dingwall’s dance-floor fodder.

Organist Greg Boraman conjured up the intriguing ‘Oblique’, which is a fairly curious musical hybrid. If you had ever wondered what a collaboration between 70’s era Charles Earland, Dexter Wansel and Roni Size for a KPM library music album might sound like – here’s your answer! Fender Rhodes, Hammond, flute and spacy synthesizers ride across James Smith’s sterling drum work, and Sulene Flemings’ ghostly wordless background vocals mark this track out as a spacey jazz-funk oddity.

‘Liquor & Poker’ is a homage to 1950’s organ & sax rhythm & blues became a firm favourite in the bands live shows – it’s combination of old school swinging drums, honking tenor, gritty guitar and organ is always a crowd pleaser, but didn’t quite make it onto the bands forthcoming long player ‘Take A Shot’ – so is included here as a bonus throwback slice of the good groove.
