Welcome to Five Fold, a new imprint founded on the principle of releasing quality dance music free from genre and tempo constraints. Mimicking the subtle variance through repetition expressed in the aperiodic nature of five-fold symmetries, our releases will explore the constantly shifting rhythms and sounds of the dance floor continuum, a study in motion that never quite repeats.

AD Bourke’s ‘Prelude EP’ is the very definition of its naming, an introduction masterfully encapsulating the musical ethos of the label. After a string of wonky-post-Dilla-future-funk vinyl releases on Citinite, Scenario and Basic Rhythm (Space Dimension Controller’s label), the four cuts here see AD evolving as a producer focusing on more lush synth melodies while notching up the tempo to deep house and disco grooves. 

‘Prelude’ opens with a galactic juggernaut of funked out synth riffing layered atop a phenomenal slap bass foundation, re-introducing AD’s sonic palette with aplomb. From lush beds of deep swelling pads and meandering arpeggio sprinkles, the interplay between the bass groove and the squelchy synth lines evolve through the second half of the track delivering a stellar disco house workout.

‘Astral’ deepens the proceedings, shifting through electro influenced drum sequences replete with jittering bass and pad stabs counterpointing AD’s adept key runs, a funk fusion soundtrack to sun rise on moon base 4.
‘Equinox’ takes to interstellar flight with a warm and robust 4X4 kick, filtered hats and a stuttering low end eventually giving way to a intense display of the artist’s cosmic synth mastery, a procession of cascading waveform showers made of pure starlight propel our journey ever deeper.

‘A Night In Almeria’ winds down our first offering with an aural snap shot of more earthly wares. A detuned piano recorded live to the sounds of crickets in the nearby fields, we end on our return to terra firma.

AD BOURKE - Prelude (Five Fold Records - FFOLD 001 - Nov. 25)

Back with a bang and brandishing four deep house cuts, London upstart label Five Fold Records welcomes the adroit Dokta Venom to the fold. Returning to his love of dirty twisted deep house, having grown up listening to Mr.Fingers, Frankie Knuckles and Moodyman, the Burnt Roses EP is drenched in the gritty soul influence of the Detroit & Chicago house movements.

Only U opens up proceedings with a straight up house cut laden with slinky soul pad sweeps atop a deep pulsating sub bass line kept correct by the upfront kick which drives this beautifully arranged sensual vocal track. 

Burnt Roses builds through catchy orchestral strings drifting along a punchy break beat inspired rhythm, deep and luscious, scattered with deftly intricate arrangements morphing throughout this big beat stomper of a track. 

Rum Vapour’s house organ infused melodies are matched by ethereal vocal samples that, set to a swinging four the floor backbone and skippy high hats, impart a garage house vibe. 

In conclusion and wearing its influences proudly on the sleeve, Space Dust pays homage to the legendary Brazilian trio Azymuth with a killer slap bass and meandering Rhodes chords set to a loose rhythm rich with shuffling congas, shakers and hand claps. 

The Dokta (aka Daniel Maunick, the son of Jean-Paul 'Bluey' Maunick of Incognito fame) first emerged from the nascent drum & bass scene of the early 90's recording his first track, a collaboration with the legendary Shy-FX, at just 15 years of age. Working extensively as part of Incognito for many years, Daniel all the while continued to develop as a studio producer & audio engineer with an extensive catalogue of releases behind him. Spanning genres and tempos with productions honed under aliases known throughout the broken beat and drum & bass scenes of the turn of the millennium, releases on labels like Talkin' Loud & Chronic Recordings underlined his studio dexterity. Now, after years DJ'ing on pirate radio and terrestrial stations like BBC 1Xtra while tending to his residency as one of Far Out Recordings main producers of Brazilian music for artists from Sabrina Malheiros to Azymuth and Marcos Valle, the Burnt Roses EP reconnects a truly talented producer with a genre that he can only describe as a labour of love.

Two Decades EP sees London producer Missing join the fold for the fourth installment of Five Fold’s mandate “...releasing quality dance music free from genre and tempo constraints”. Hailing from the heady days of the UK Jungle scene circa ‘94, followed by a host of releases as one half of the breaks duo C83 throughout the noughties, Missing re-emerges on the scene with four dancefloor fillers spanning UK bass house, garage/ jungle grooves and vocal deep house.

‘Reflections’ sets the tone with a bouncy bass house driver replete with references to Amens past. ‘Like a Rush’ ventures into classic deep house territory featuring the soulful vocals of Heidi Vogel (The Cinematic Orchestra). ‘Incoming’ drops peak-time big room bass house badness punctuated by a distorted tear-out jungle bassline set to a heavy 135bpm 4/4 beat. ‘Last Orders at the Frog & Nightgown’, a knowing nod to the birthplace of UKG and a sub bass-ladengarage/jungle hybrid, closes out the EP to great effect.

Lovingly mixed down on an array of vintage analog gear and mastered at the legendary Metropolis studio, Missing’s debut 12” on Five Fold Records signals a welcome return of this producers’ sonic DNA recombined circa 2014.

Five Fold’s fifth foray introduces Venetian underground house purveyors Autre & TIYG’s vinyl debut as a production collective. Machina Electrica EP was recorded as a series of live jams and re-edits that venture through old school house to soulful jazz fusion and rough techno rhythms. An adorational construction of saturated analogue drum machines, undulating funky basslines and deep sub-bass washes, all dripping with ghostly vibraphone and melancholic synth progressions reminiscent of the melodic era of house music’s origin.

Harnessing Autre’s deep house vibes alongside the classically trained yet experimental enthusiasm of TIYG’s Victor (violinist/composer) and Luca (jazz vibraphonist/percussionist), these recordings chronicle the trio’s live production ethos as captured in their self-built studio space in Venice, now sadly disbanded. With Autre now plying his trade in Berlin and TIYG splitting production duties between Paris and Venice, Five Fold eagerly anticipates further sonic adventures from the label’s newest additions.

Five Fold’s First Fully Fledged digital release inaugurates a curated excursion through the more experimental beat-laden productions of the label’s roster.

TIYG, Venetian duo Luca and Victor, fresh from their recent vinyl outing for the Fold, deliver two new singles in the form of the frenetic grooves of ‘Dizzy Horizon’ and the bubbling synth distortions of ‘Lighthouse ON’.

A magnetic concoction of analogue synths, drum machines and outboard effects, FFDIGI001 is underpinned by TIYG’s raw and near-live production ethos. Abrasive and angular in parts, shimmering and glassy in others, these tracks offer a tantalising glimpse into what’s to come from this talented pair.

Following on from their recent digital-only release for the label, TIYG, brings some serious dancefloor pressure with the delectable ‘In Your Guts’ vinyl EP from Five Fold Records. 
Diverging from their more experimental output, ‘In Your Guts’ is firmly rooted in the continental techno aesthetic seeing our two classically trained instrumentalist thirsting for sonic exploration and delivering gloriously dirty techno acidity coaxed from the array of analogue synths and outboard gear installed in their Venetian studio. 

Opening with ‘In Your Guts’ Remix by AD Bourke, those familiar with AD’s aural evolution will find our first Five Fold Alumni piloting a peak-time acid techno juggernaut of epic proportions. Crunchy, dark and so heavy it warps spacetime, this remix will be pummeling bass bins from Berghain to Movement well into 2016’s summer season. 
Flip to the B side for the original cut of jumped up squelchy acid techno, where the marauding bassline mutates throughout awash with distortion filters and bad intentions, while the B2 is a thoroughly dark and unsettling affair of cavernous reverbs and rhythmic scatterings that give way to a deep and driving techno bubbler percolating long into the night.
