FivE is an exciting new quartet that is pushing the boundaries of low brass chamber music. One of the first of its kind, this euphonium quartet routinely shatters expectations of what is possible on the instrument. Formed in the winter of 2012, FivE has attracted national attention for their highly unique sound and success at chamber music competitions. Recently, the group won 1st Prize at the Pennsylvania Music Teachers National Association Chamber Music Competition and will advance to the regional level of competition in January. Previously, FivE was selected as one of twelve ensembles internationally to compete in the 40th Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, the largest of its kind in the world. FivE is the first and only euphonium quartet to ever advance to the Fischoff quarterfinals.

Due to the recent creation of the euphonium quartet as a serious music ensemble, FivE exclusively performs original compositions, arrangements, and adaptations. Two of the members, Drew Bonner and Luke Gall, regularly compose and arrange works for the group that are tailored specifically for the ensemble’s strengths. Drew and Luke have recently found success as composers by placing in the Euphoniumcommisions.org and Music Teachers National Association Regional composition contest, respectively. 

Lately, FivE’s success has taken them around the eastern United States allowing them to perform at the 2013 Northeast Regional Tuba Euphonium Conference, the McCann School of Art, and the 2013 Southesat Regional Tuba Euphonium Conference. The group maintains an active performing schedule and has performed in Florida, Indiana, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Additionally, they regularly seeks to dedicate time to the education of tomorrow’s musicians and music-lovers. In the summer of 2013, FivE was invited as a performer and clinician to the Music on the River Concert Band Camp, a six-day music camp held in central Virginia. The ensemble was fortunate to host the first ever solo competition, an opportunity for campers to play a solo backed by the ensemble.

Individually, the members of FivE have excelled in the nation’s top solo competitions and their cumulative accolades include winning prizes or participating as finalists in the Leonard Falcone International Euphonium and Tuba Festival, the MTNA Young Artist Solo Competition, and the Southeast Regional Tuba Euphonium Conference Young Artist Solo Competition.
