Today I'll be teaching you how to change your engine oil. First, open the hood of your car, then find the oil dipstick. It normally comes in a bright color, such as yellow. If you dont know where it is, don't be afraid to search your user manual. Then, lift up the oil dipstick, and measure the amount of oil in the car. Oil that needs maintenance is usually viscous, grainy, dark, or all of the above. If you dont know when your oil got changed, check your owners manual for how many Kilometers or Miles your oil needs to get changed. Some cars take longer for the oil to need to get changed than others. In order to change the oil you must drain out the old oil first. So in order to do that lift the car off the surface, and then you need to locate the oil pan which is usually located underneath the car. The oil pan should have a section that dips out, which lumps downwards making it pretty noticeable. Once again, if you can not precisely locate the oil pan, do not be afraid to search your owner’s manual, or look up your car model on a search engine. A bolt should be located underneath or on the side of the oil pan, and that should be the drain bolt. Before unscrewing the drain bolt, be sure to wear gloves and eye protection as engine oil can result in harmful reactions if it ever contact to your eyes or mouth. You should also prepare an oil catch can as you wouldn't want the oil getting everywhere. Slowly unscrew the drain bolt, and release it quickly once you feel the drain bolt come loose. Wait as all the oil drains out, then tighten the drain bolt snug. You then want to go back to the hood of the car, and this time, unscrew the oil cap. It should look like there is a symbol on top of it that looks like a little watering pot with oil dripping out of it. If you don’t know where the oil fill cap is, do not be afraid to check your owner’s manual. Now, most cars take in about 5 quarts of oil, but every car is different so do not be afraid to check your owners manual. After topping off the oil to the recommended amount, close the cap and start the engine to get all the oil circulated. Be sure to recycle your old engine oil, your mechanic will take it, your recycling center will take it, you just dont want any engine oil to contaminate your surroundings. Now after all of that, your engine has new oil inside of it, and you are free to drive off! Congrats and have fun!
