This track was made for a YouTube video tutorial I published on my channel. I made seven different minimalistic piano tracks, each written in a different mode of the natural major scale. For each, I used only a piano library and a bunch of VSTs.

MODAL SCALE DEMONSTRATIONS – Lydian

Instrumental of the country-folk song “Mr. Bojangles," written and recorded by Jerry “Jeff” Walker in 1968 and by Neil Diamond in 1969 and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in 1970. 

Walker wrote the song after he met a homeless street performer jailed in New Orleans for public intoxication. The performer called himself "Mr. Bojangles.” Walker, Bojangles and his cellmates chatted about all manner of things. Bojangles told a story about performing with a dog that was killed by a car, and the mood turned heavy. A cellmate asked for something to lighten the mood. Bojangles obliged with a tap dance. 

“Mr. Bojangles” was white. He said he took his pseudo name from a black entertainer named Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, who died in 1949. Hell of a story!
