The composer Elia Cmiral writes:

"The composition "Altered Mind of 20-20" was written for a classical string quartet - two violins, viola and cello, playing along with electronica. The string quartet was recorded remotely by local Los Angeles studio musicians and the electronic sound design was created in my studio."

"As the title suggests, the music reflects feelings and changes of our minds under the pressure of the Covid-19 virus pandemic. It is about us, about our human relations, about the world forced by the virus to its knees, with consequences we cannot even see and understand at this moment. There is another, less obvious meaning in the title. If the dash between numbers 20 is changed to minus, it equals 0. When you abbreviate Altered Mind of 20-20,  you get AM and 20 minus 20 = 0.  Is civilization at the dawn of a new era? Zero dawn? A new world? Starting from scratch - 0?"

"The music of Altered Mind of 20-20 is quite dark, as I went through a process of my own personal hard times and anxiety during the Covid-19 crisis. Later I started to see more and more beautiful human gestures around the globe full of love, empathy, and understanding, as we are all in it together. I felt such hope in us! I saw a light far away in the tunnel, and I felt inspired and compelled to write a second part of Altered Mind of 20-20. I hope to orchestrate both parts very soon."

 Born in Czechoslovakia, Elia Cmiral is the son of an actress and a theater director, and grandson of one of Antonin Dvorak’s pupils. A multi-instrumentalist, Cmiral attended the Prague Music Conservatory, where he studied composition and double bass. Elia's first scoring opportunity came with his father's production of "Cyrano de Bergerac." From this experience he discovered his passion for writing for the stage.

By the early 80's, Cmiral had moved to Sweden. Throughout his time there he wrote scores for several European films, TV and three ballets. In 1989, he moved to America for USC's Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television program. His year at USC culminated with the scoring of his first American feature, Apartment Zero starring Colin Firth. To date, Elia has written nearly sixty scores for film and television.
