Black Seven Music returns with the second edition of their yearly 'Winter VA' series, comprising eight freshly squeezed dancefloor rollers.

Yugo Sanchez's kicks off the release with 'Dominic', bringing a deepened approach, emphasising on groove and movement from the outset. Endless layers of rattling percussion combine with punchy drum work, rumbling bass notes and a catchy vocal hook to carve out a certified vibe-builder.

Funk Off & Ender Royers are next with 'Ridin', a stripped-back record with a sophisticated persona and loads of individual appeal. Building around cleancut drums and a catchy bassline melody, its pitched down soulful vocal licks add even more flavour to this standout record.

Mr. Nuñez's 'Chipper' kicks things back up a notch with plenty of punch and flair. Endless layers of percussion collide with heavyset kicks and a driving sub-bass melody as they slice through creative fills and carefully-placed breaks with impressive effect from start to finish.

Simon Salazar comes next with 'Libertador', adding more weight to the affair through emphatic rhythms and pulsating bass tones. An energetic flurry of groove and elegance from the off, its ebb and flow is complemented with a signature latino vocal that brings the track alive.

J.Wheel's 'Samba' keeps the release firing with gritty frequencies and thumping beats. Its standout tribal vocal carries you throughout the mix through a sea of glitchy fills and roughened percussion as it glides effortlessly through an explicitly danceable journey.

S.L.M.D comes next with 'Slow', serving bumpy grooves from the very start. A combination of chunky drums and swinging sub-bass push the track forwards through several breaks and builds complemented by a catchy vocal hook and playful percussion that bring its head-bopping character to life.

Foxy closes the release with 'What You Need', offering up a racy finish to the compilation. Uptempo beats and riveting percussive swing build the base of the track alongside the addition of cleverly placed vocal chops, atmospheric FX and subtle melodic elements. This one is a real terrace groover, there's no mistaking.

The ‘Drive’ EP puts its foot down and brings together Brazilian big-timers BeMore and Deeft. Pedro ‘BeMore’ Bellini and Samuel ‘Deeft’ Telles take their beats beyond the beach and have the followers and an ever increasing amount of European traffic to show for it, with Claude von Stroke, Chris Lake and Tim Baresko helping take their sound to all parts. Three tracks here and ‘Drive’ is destined to go to the distance.

The title track is an extremely stylish ride, opening with slithering clarinets and bringing in dusty horns – a double act acting shifty - as the track vibes to a Gallic-sounding backdrop from back when. Dropping a mix of vocals – gruff raps sounding like a street corner lookout, and persuasive divas with feathers in their hair taking you by the hand – ‘Drive’ is a goodtime groove with a mischievous edge for all terrains.

The meat in the sandwich is ‘Envolvidão’, wrapped in urgent Latin tongues hollering at one another across the dancefloor. Made to whip crowds up into a frenzy on the basis of shouting louder than anyone else, BeMore feeds the front row and far corners the sort of no-nonsense, deep and funky rhythms that Clarisse fans will eat up instantly.

Making sure that the groove is in the heart and with some addictive G-funk whines in the mix, BeMore asks ‘What Is Love’ and gets the answer in the form of a third banger that goes slightly darker into the system. To the rhythm of a willowy bass step connecting perfectly with those low-rider licks intertwined with first lady art of seduction, it finishes an EP bound for house playlist pole position.

Martin OCCO is known for his continuous delivering of percussive tech house cuts over more recent years. His specialty lies in exploring the wide spectrum of underground music. His merit as a producer has managed to get releases on top labels, which were continuously supported and played by top international acts. 

The Rocket EP features an incredibly crafted trio, and one of our favorite label releases to date. Martin's inaugural tracks on the label boast a critical lesson in groove, we urge fresh ears and up-and-coming producers to listen closely. Martin Occo has proven himself a staple in the genre, crafting an atmosphere of wanting more. The rapid pace of the tracks, the redundant and heavy low end, the reverberating vocals - it all comes together to create an ambiance that will elevate your heart rate. He's joined by another esteemed name in the underground, Manu Fuentes with his remix of the title track called "Rocket".

For the first 2024 release, Pakate returns to where everything began: New York. It's a big Brooklyn affair between our crew regular and Risqué bosses Shahar & Motum, who return to Pakate after their appearance on our 2023 Miami VA teaming up for "Punks In The Back" EP, which includes a remix by UK favourite Casey Spillman (LOCUS).

Hooky echoing vocal samples, fat breakbeat drums, and slung basslines bring the funk to the lead track, a whirlwind of ghetto-laced, driving rhythms and stripped-back grooves. Next, Casey Spillman brings all his London flavourz to the table with a trippy minimal remix featuring elusive synths, shuffling percussion, bumping low-ends, and subtle acid sequences. Closing the package, "Dumbo" - featuring Luquez - is all about shuffling drum patterns and groove-heavy efforts for the ultimate rolling and bumpy terrace-vibes tool.
