Love Letters enters the Allergy Season fold for his debut EP on the label, Projecting. The EP presents Love Letters doing the work he knows best: taking us for a ride. This trip begins by throwing us into the saddle at full trot on “With Stallions,” a galloping, panoramic piano banger with a booty. That distinct Love Letters vibe rings clear in the track’s flirty functionality, featuring slinky hats and cheeky claps designed to move the body, clip-clopping atop a tickle of acid and euphoric synths. The EP continues to juice us out with the simultaneously crunchy yet deeply moisturizing “Vazeline,” and the persistently rejuvenating “Villa V” (wherever that is…), where we are greeted at the veranda with a swinging, hyaluronic acid groove, billowing over in lush synth glissandos and hazy, diaphanous pads that disperse to reveal sprawling vistas beyond the eucalyptus steam. The final track “Tantalize” winds down our journey in a thoughtful wash of gorgeous dub, nourishing us yet leaving us wanting more.

Born in the bucolic mountains of Vermont and based in New York City, Love Letters (aka Maxime Robillard) is a producer, DJ, sound artist, and vibe curator extraordinaire, running the experimental ambient event series Hypnotic Spa (co-curated with dj s) and releasing music on labels like Mister Saturday Night Record and The Bunker NY. Most recently he contributed to Car Culture’s Dead Rock LP on Allergy Season sub-label Lighthead Records. Love Letters truly is a multifaceted mood chauffeur, reaching wide across energies in his pursuit of sounds for all occasions that mobilize bodies and activate minds.

Love Letters - With Stallions

Prettybwoy’s debut is entitled Tayutau ( 揺蕩う), a traditional Japanese term often used in haiku and literature, meaning ‘waver’ - a state of indecisiveness, to lose determination or purpose, often temporarily, or to drift or sway to and fro. Made over the last two years whilst dealing with isolation, job loss, burnt hard-drives and almost losing the whole project, the album has seen several phases and degrees of anxiety, uncertainty, hope and frustration.

‘Too many things have changed since starting to make this album, and I think that is reflected in the production. The album can be split into three parts – tracks I made before the pandemic when things felt stable, tracks made during lockdown in isolation, and tracks made during the cautious and conflicted opening up and the lead up to the Olympics. There has been so much confusion and changes back and forth, but I want to have hope and try to keep focused, which at times hasn't been easy’

As well as drawing from external causes, 'Tayutau' also comes from a place of internal uncertainty.

'This is a trip in search of my new identity, or maybe to understand my current one. I am Japanese, living in Japan, but my music is only released by labels from other countries. I am a member of SVBKVLT (China), and also Polaar (France), but where or who am I in Japan?’

Tayutau is a 10 track album, featuring two vocal appearances from lIlI and a collaboration with Primula, and comes with artwork and video from Wang Jingxin. A separate EP of remixes will be released shortly after the album.

Raised in small-town Indiana on a musical diet of 80s synth pop and punk rock, Noncompliant soon found barnyard raves and warehouse techno parties and (as DJ Shiva) quickly became a fixture of the fabled 90s Midwest USA rave scene.

Now, almost three decades and a name change later, she is at the top of her techno game. She was recognized as one of Mixmag's Top 20 Breakthrough DJs in 2017 and has performed at renowned venues like Berghain and Tresor in Berlin, Smartbar in Chicago, and DeSchool in Amsterdam. She has also appeared at festivals such as Unsound and Movement Detroit. 

Noncompliant's releases and remixes on labels like Valence, Flash, Outerworld, and Dark Entries have made waves in the global music scene, with her track "Women's Work" even landing on Fiedel's official Berghain 08 mix and his label Fiedeltwo. In 2023, she is launching her own label called Giant Arm, which features her signature style of raw, uncompromising techno. 

At her core, Noncompliant is a die-hard techno fan with a deep love for music and a drive to continue honing her craft as a DJ and producer to share her favorite music with people on dance floors around the world.
