A tribute to women that have influenced him in his life - the women who sing, write, compose and play - 'W' is the title of Populous' new album on Wonderwheel and a celebration of femininity beyond stereotypes. It's a response to the macho uniformity dominant in the music industry. Each track features collaboration between Populous and some of his favourite female artists. It's also the first time that Populous has expressed his sexuality, as a gay man, through his eclectic branches of global electronica, house, digital cumbia and vogue beat, which has in his words, 'helped me to become 100% free'.

"Everything started the first time I saw Roma, the Oscar winning film by Alfonso Cuaron. I really liked it and immediately fell in love with the strange flute sound I heard in the movie.  I researched and discovered that is was an ancient instrument called chiflo used by Mexican "afiladores" (knife sharpeners) to warn people they're close. So I imagined up a girl who dreams about running away from her real life, moving to Roma (the one in Mexico City) as a sort of dreamlike journey."

After several releases including "Your Sister" "Tambor de Yemaya" and "Early Morning" on King Street Sounds and Inkfish Sweden, Derek Turcios and Maxim Laskavy return to the studio for "The Morning" this time joined by Chicago House Legend Chip E, of "Time to Jack"  fame with Intec boss Carl Cox. Rumbums is: Derek Turcios & Djoy de Cuba of Analogica Cuba, an underground pioneer of electronic music in the Havana scene and frequent collaborator with Turcios on live shows worldwide. "The Morning" is a funk laden deep/tech ghetto house monster that has been receiving heavy play overseas at festivals and clubs, already in the hands of Danny Tengalia, Laurent Garnier, Carl Cox, Josh Wink, Seth Troxler and The Martinez bros. This piece of urban artillery is a perfect groove for Terrace Sets and Urban Rooftops. All instruments and music played live in the studio by Turcios, who's jazzy solos made him a breakout at Street King and Inkfish. Abakua, is the result of the association of Da Le and Wichy de Vedado. As a whole, it is the work of three DJs -producers consolidated on the scene. Ivan Lejardi and David Casas who come together to collaborate under the Da Le brand, with interesting mixes of electronic music with traditional and Afro-Cuban music; and Wichy de Vedado, pioneer dj-producer on the scene, well-known due to his versatility and his participation in numerous jazz and hip hop musical projects. With a very good mix achieved, this collaboration marks a distinction in the EP, by mixing prayers from the popularly known Abakua secret society, unique in the American continent and a legacy of African emigration in Cuba; with House of progressive cut.
