In his new release, you’ll find a signature styled drive. With a percussive base that blends with arpeggiated synth melodies and bubbly elements, the track feels like being in constant motion, driven by an unknown force into unknown territory. One of the things that attract me most in this tune is the presence of what the multivalent calls ‘Tripfield’, a unique genre blend that defines the style of Flatfoot Sam throughout all his work. It’s that certain playful curiosity that is enriched with some rough edges to form a perfect mix of soft groove and harsh textures. Ferry Chain

Flatfoot Sam has been involved in the dance music scene since taking an interest in the vibe from 15 years old. Flatty took inspiration from the original hardcore DJs who rocked the dance music scene back in the day. He then went on to buy his own set of decks in 1995, starting from the bottom with some second-hand Soundlab belt drives. He kicked off his career, releasing a few vinyl bangers in late the ’90s, and shortly after he found his feet in a new line of work – promoting dance parties throughout the ‘90s and 2000s. 

Fasting forward to the beginning of the first lockdown in 2020, Flatty harnessed his creative capabilities to create TripField; a fusion of Triphop and Leftfield that incorporates chunky beats paired with the serenity and underlying calmness of Balearic vibes. TripField features cranking but uplifting rhythms and warm subby basslines at or below 100 bpms, with ethereal samples and synths that distinguish it as a unique genre of its own. With the inclusion of subtle acid lines and an attitude, reminiscent of the early raving days and bands like Leftfield, Moby and Massive Attack, whilst also harnessing elements of The Prodigy.
