marucoporoporo – an artist based in Ama, Aichi, Central Japan – announces the release of their beautiful debut album ‘Conceive The Sea’.
 
Born out of music created for an art installation in 2022, ‘Conceive the Sea’ is an introspective odyssey exploring artistry and existence, a work carried by thematic currents based on the passing of time and the cycle of life. With an aesthetic essence guided by the imagery of seawater and amniotic fluid, and their connections with origins of life and nurturing ideas of growth, ‘Conceive the Sea’ follows the project’s debut 2018 EP ‘In her dream’ as well as a recent remix for aus (Lo Recordings), the solo project of FLAU founder Yasuhiko Fukuzono.
 
Fusing off-kilter acoustic guitars with gorgeous vocals that undulate from shaded intonations to crystal-clear high-pitched illuminations, ‘Conceive the Sea’ forms ambient reveries with echoes of gossamer folksong, creating arrangements that seem to float and drift to oceanic depths. Eight tracks representing soft, faint yet subtly absorbing pools of sound, infused with delicately treated electronics. Impressionistic music as warm as the midday sun on closed eyelids; music that shimmers, like bioluminescent marine life, sparkling in the rain.

These are the floating dreams that scatter upon you. Delicate, and yet refreshing. Familiar feelings, but yet different. These are the moments that you don’t want to wake up. These are the moments that you don’t want to open your eyes. These are the moments you experience the evolution of bedroom pop. These are moments you listen to Cokiyu’s “Your Thorn”.

It has been 4 years since she debuted with her critically acclaimed album, “Mirror Flake”. During this 4 years period, this hugely gifted artist who hails from Ehime, Japan, has participated in various projects, including contributing 2 tracks to the soundtrack for the blockbuster movie “Kokuhaku (Confession)”, together with artists like Radiohead and Boris. She also collaborated with other well-known artists like Bichi (The Blue Foundation) and Robert Svensson (Mixtapes & Cellmates). She took Australia by storm with her Australia tour, and she also played in the SPOT Festival in Denmark.

Armed with the renewed maturity and the freshness gained from the invaluable experience in this 4 years, Cokiyu finally comes back with her 2nd full-length album, “Your Thorn”. This gorgeous album is bedroom pop in its finest form. Signature angelic voices by Cokiyu that quietly wraps you with delicate warmth, which brilliantly infused with tantalizing electronic sounds, creating moments that you don’t want to wake up.

In this album, you will be gently treated with a number of beautiful song-based tracks, including a charming pop-song she collaborated with itoken (the renowned drummer for d.v.d, Harpy, tokumaru-shugo band, and etc). Besides that, Cokiyu even tried her hands on ambient drone music in this album, and the result is simply breathtaking. All these have made “Your Thorn” into not just merely a beautiful album, but also a statement of the unbounded potential of Cokiyu’s musical talent.

Guest artists in this album, include itoken, Yuji Tanaka (the drummer of the popular band Quruli) and Teruya Honda (of Autumnleaf).

"Farewell" is worldwide debut album of Taiwanese female fronted chamber ensemble Cicada who played with Olafur Arnalds, Rachel Grimes, Balmorhea.
“Farewell” described how someone who went through the cycle of a relationship. It’s about breakup, facing the future alone and also reveals the teenage girls inside us. Cicada selected 14 songs from “Over the Sea /Under the Water”, “Pieces”, and “Let’s Go” With the new recording and production, together they told a story.

White Forest is dedicated to animals including whales, dolphins, coral reefs, sea turtles, as well as cats in the city and birds in the mountains. Along with “Ocean” is the series of Cicada’s work themed with marine and land.

“Dolphins Leap” proceeds with different speeds to imitate spinner dolphins and risso’s dolphins. “Used to be Home” portrayed the impact of offshore wind energy caused on white dolphin’s habitat from their point of views. “Whale Family” is about humpback whales caring and raising babies. “White Forest” starts from the dreamy coral reef spawning into their bleaching due to seawater warming. Cicada’s attempts are to describe the relationship between human and its impact on ocean and animals.

Japanese producer The Future Eve – known for his minimalist, synthesised pieces under the moniker Tomo Akikawabaya such as The Castle (1984), reissued alongside other works on New York's Minimal Wave Records as The Invitation of The Dead in 2015 – has announced a landmark collaboration spanning continents and planes of existence. Going under the new name of The Future Eve, he has worked together with the legendary Robert Wyatt to create an electronic journey of sound.

When the mix was published in International Tapes @mrintl, an introduction by E.Neubauten and Tsumugine was added in 2012 . The mix includes many tracks by Japanese artists, mainly from the internet archive and early electronics.

Henning Schmiedt’s new original variations of Bach’s famous Goldberg aria deal with the same theme as the original – to find rest in sleepless nights and the hope that slumber will finally come.
Accordingly the titles of the songs In Henning’s new album Schlafen tell the story of a hypnosis session.

The upright muted piano is played extremely softly and gently, presenting the iconic classical gem in a very different attitude.
Microphones placed very closely to the piano capture an intimate sound and emphasise the noises and movements inside the piano.
The music paints the blue color of twilight and might make you sink in deeply.

"The tracks I’ve chosen for this Slumber mix are a sonically diverse array of sounds from flau’s catalogue over the past 6 years incl. folktronic, classical, avant-garde, dream pop, microsounds, audio collages and complex beat experiments. Featuring an international cast of artists, I wanted to represent a vast repertoire of work, but still retain the soothing and subtle sound aesthetic that has become synonymous with the label’s musical output. I’ve just returned to Japan from touring Europe and was a little absent-minded when creating the mix due to jetlag. Some people say that sunlight, water, medication, coffee and changing your body temperature can help you beat jetlag. For me it’s about relaxing, and there’s no better way to relax then by listening to music. In a way, this mix is my way of beating jetlag. It’s the perfect mix to unwind to. So slip on your headphones, sit back and wonder off to the ethereal sounds of everblooming cherry blossoms."
