Sometimes, the PR text sent by the label is so rich and detailed that we decide to use it for the premiere instead of writing a lousy one:

Fértil Discos presents "Paisajes", the first compilation that makes visible landscapes at risk of extinction in Latin America. With a conglomerate of global producers from countries such as Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, and Nicaragua, among others, the VY proposes 14 tracks (…) that dialogue with the environment to introduce us to different geographies that suffer the consequences of human exploitation.

With every playback, the Buenos Aires-based non-profit Germinar makes these scenarios visible, repairs them, and contributes to managing with environmental awareness and responsibility, rethinking culture and industry in the context of the global ecological crisis. 

The album includes the participation of established artists such as El Remolón, the recently disappeared (RIP) Kraut together with Rumbo Tumba, the Colombian Mente Orgánica or Yoyoyo (the side project of the Chilean dream pop band Tunacola). Other artists such as Ignacio La Conga, Cuervo Cuervo, the duo composed by Fu-5 and the charanguista Patricio Sullivan, Andesónica, are also on board.

Each song speaks about a different landscape, such as the drums of Lascivio Bohemia denounce the mega-mining of the Andean Chocó, the charango of Yoyoyo makes visible the water emergency and pollution of the Atacama Desert, while El Remolón and Brawlio make a parallelism between the burnings of the Telesita and the wetlands in the Paraná delta.

Nicolas Alejandro Cantor González is a Colombian Latin music producer with more than ten years of experience in the music industry. His work has been highlighted in commercials, and Hollywood and Netflix productions. During the 2020 pandemic, Nicolas decided to delve deeper into his connection with music and created Ancestral Beats.

"Llanito" is an instrumental joropo track that takes us to the beautiful but dangerous Colombian-Venezuelan landscapes. Part of the border has been seriously invaded by paramilitary people and turned into a quite dangerous area. In the last years, a great deforestation has been created for cattle raising and tourism purposes.

With Llanito, you feel the energy and power of the joropo, but also its romanticism and beauty. In this birdlike air, the llanera harp leads the melody while the cuatro, the bass, and the capachos form a solid base. Although normally the essence of Pajarillo is found in his voice and lyrics, on this occasion it was decided to give priority to the instrumentation to create a new experience.

Artist´s collective Shika Shika presents  “Especias”, the debut EP by renowned Amsterdam producer Daniel Zuur´s new worldly moniker Kraut.
“Especias” - Spanish for spices - serves-up four choice cuts of flavour packed, global electronica, mixing together Daniel´s diverse influences to offer a whole new platter of sound, rhythm and melody. “Especias” infuses house production esthetics with Latin American folk melodies and organic rhythms, mixing natural flavours with a modern touch and just the right amount of kick for the dancefloor.
The release opens with “Selva”, a mouth-wateringly familiar melody transporting us to the Andes before the soothing, aromatic melodies the aptly titled “Marimba” take our taste buds in a different direction. “Hermano” is fusion at its best, mixing Eastern European hammer dulcimers with tribal rhythms and ethereal flutes to form an appetizing track for DJs from Cali to California. A drummer by training, Kraut has an exceptional ear for rhythm, marrying organic, free-range, live percussion with crisp melodies like on closing track “El Mariachi”: a refreshing cumbia beat sprinkled with fiery claps and glazed with glistening arpeggios.
Daniel Zuur has been a household name on the German and Dutch electronic music scene since 2009 having played iconic clubs and festivals such as Kater Holzig (Berlin), Katerblau (Berlin) Sisyphos (Berlin), Paradiso (Amsterdam), Perron (Rotterdam) and Tivoli (Utrecht) or internationally at locations like Baum (Bogota, Colombia). He has released music on labels like Katermukke, Manual Muisc, Cinematqiue and on his own label, Zauer Records and “Especias” is his first official release as Kraut - which means ___in Dutch.
“Especias” is the third release from the international, organic music collective Shika Shika, a record label without owners for music without borders and is available on Bandcamp as well as the usual digital music channels.

In recent times Alex Pletnev has been making his mark on the musical stratosphere with an array of works from from cold wave edits, through gorgeous adaptations of african and world music to tribal techno originals. He joins us as Pletnev for “Aztec Code / Daywalker”, a 12” combining his abundant influences to take us to bizarre, far-off places.

“Aztec Code” is a pure dance thing. Inspired by the fat kicks and live bass lines of the Big Beat era, Pletnev combines a jumping beat with african percussion and a charismatic vocal that seems to call out from between the palm fronds of somewhere steamy as we work up a sweat. Tenderly crafted with samples taken from almost 10 records, one-shots, drum layers and melodic licks are treated and mixed, giving rise to a warm, lush atmosphere perfect for circling a fire deep in the tropics.

On the flip, “Daywalker” is a completely original, synthesised outing. A sleazy lead line charms and slithers upwards between layers of syncopated tabla and a sultry acidic groove. The tune spins and twists around this central oriental theme, ever-evolving as layers of detailed percussion and ad-libbed melodies intensify the tone.

Sound artist Eva Geist joins Fleeting Wax label head Mehmet Aslan to spin “Daywalker”. The pair create a sonic bridge between the two originals. Their hazy rework dubs out some electronic elements, adding contorted sound design, distant vocals, lofi samples and an italo leaning bass. A mystic incantation for spaced out late morning moments.

The title track is a live recording from 2008, perfectly setting the mood for the whole EP: psychedelic shaman music with powerful oud chords and a hypnotic Middle Eastern atmosphere.

Kobza Vajk is a Hungarian self-taught psychedelic folk musician who has been playing the oud and other obscure stringed instruments, like kithara or the lute for more than 15 years. His main influences are folk and ancient music of all kinds, what brings these together is his contemporary approach of composing and the oriental technique he plays his instruments with. This release focuses on his original work from the late 2000's with a few reinterpretations coming from established e-music producers.

Kobza Vajk - Oud&Bass (BéTé remix)

'Third Eye Dub’ explores the fractal realm of concentration, a point where the Oud (played by Nasiri) acts on the pineal gland. This inward journey through the cavernous depths of the subconscious sails on a smooth modular groove that transports the listener across this psychic expanse, a filigree of Persian harmonies (in Shur, to be exact) tracing outlines in the dark.

After his deep nature, consciously inspired contribution to our first release on Earthly Tapes 01, Janax Pacha returns with that jungly vibe again bringing you ‘El Caracol’. Translating to ‘The Snail’, the 4-track EP comprises two tempo shifting interpretations of a journey through vibrating mystical woodlands plus two re-works by Andi Otto and Carrot Green.

Slowly pulsating through a surreal and tripped out space, on the title track and EP opener ‘Caracol’, Janax Pacha effortlessly infuses South American indigenous wind instruments and distorted chimes with a deep chugging bassline to create a deep and introspective piece.

Raising the tempo whilst still retaining the obscurity of the EP opener, ’Sin Fin’ endlessly pushes the title track into dancier regions. With added momentum, it manages to strike the perfect balance between introspection and a more hedonistic, party-driven focus. 

Andi Otto, provides the first remix of two. With added drive to the original created by extra depth of bass and emphasis on snappy percussion, the remix sits nicely somewhere between both ‘Caracol’ and ‘Sin Fin’.

To complete the journey, EM contributor Carrot Green produces a funky off-kilter break-beat effort. Keeping the elements of the original but with an added twist of unpredictability and pure danceability, this remix sees ‘Sin Fin’ being pushed deeper into a wormhole of obscurity.

Fleeting Wax is a new label by Basel DJs Mehmet Aslan and Miajica from Alma Negra, whose fame has spread far and beyond Switzerland. The EP contains three striking edits from the reaches of what could be considered world disco in the widest sense of the word. It’s fair to say that this is the embodiment of a now-familiar Basel sound – all sultry playfulness, Turkish delights and sun-drenched pop-not-pop. The first is Tai’s "Schlager Edit", built on a combo of hypnotic Marimba-dreaming and that irresistibly sugary voice. Istanbul digger DJ Fattish immerses himself into the singer-songwriter wealth of his country. And label co-owner Miajica weds Italian cantautore passion to the dancefloor.
