The concept behind this split 12” is simple. Two artists who are divided by the Atlantic Ocean but unified by a love of classic New Beat sounds. Andi, boss of the New York City-based Synthicide record label/club night and Aufnahme + Wiedergabe recording artist, combined forces with Sheffield’s Industrialist and lover of underground Body Music, Randolph & Mortimer, to present their own interpretation to the unmistakable Belgian genre.

Thus, “Torque Force” was forged. A landscape where seedy neon-soaked city streets merge with the clang of hammers and of industry: Gotham versus The Steel City. Andi brings pure style to Side A with driving beats and rolling, lo-fi percussion overlaid by seriously funky basslines and ominous samples. Side B is jammed with the unmistakable dancibility found in Randolph & Mortimer’s oeuvre that forces the body to move —with intense, in-your-face synth lines and precise beats, there is no choice but to dance.

The four tracks on “Torque Force” are not just uber cool dancefloor killers, but could easily soundtrack a slew of 1980s dystopian cyber-sleaze movies. She must have violated the program…

Dusk had blurred into twilight and soon the sun was setting, bringing with it an all engulfing darkness. They'd been driving for some time without seeing any signs of life, but as they finally veered onto the highway, a flock of cars greeted them, each edging closer towards the sea of bright lights on the horizon. Escaping this had given them space to breathe and think but as the days passed they were aching to get back into the throes of city life.

Four years ago Years of Denial brought their potent blend of goth, post-punk, dark wave, EBM and techno to Veyl Records for their Suicide Disco LP. This self-coined name perfectly describes their sound, and it's what they're diving back into for the second chapter of this string of Veyl releases. This follow up balances slow burners, mournful romanticism, dystopian energy and a hefty dose of seductive body music which stays true to the pillars of the YoD sound.

From a state of psychedelic-induced ego death, through painful revelations and onward into a realm of new desires, these four very personal tracks are the direct result of the artist's own therapeutic process of self-exploration and expression undertaken during a tumultuous year of change. Utilising decidedly minimal instrumentation as the backdrop to the emotional weight of the voice and words, each song represents an individual step within an exhausting but ultimately affirmative transformation.

Ameliorate

Today's premiere is the track 'Facing Fears' by Petros Spatharos, included in the third release of the Athenian label FERMA, featuring a highly eclectic mix of sounds, from local and international heroes.

‘Facing Fears’ is a slow EBM trip, arrogantly evolving alongside a suspiciously seductive baseline. The track is like an atmospheric limbo, led by a persevering kick that embraces the worn out mind. A sonic maze of fears and faded dreams. A walk on a forbidden path that leads to a torturing place; a doubtful end of an untold story.
