Slidewhistle:

This is probably the happiest sounding track that I have made. It comes from a different time, I probably made it in about 2016. Not too long ago, but a different world.

It’s the 303s that sound happy. I used my Devilfish in the background, but I also have a clone that I love, a Mode Machines clone, it’s the first one I ever got and that’s the one that’s front and centre in Slidewhistle. It sounds amazing, and it’s so tweakable, but it’s really hard to keep in tune! 

Otherwise there’s a Moog Sub Phatty which does a bit of growling, a drum sample you’ll recognize, and then my own drums that I’ve put into a similar form. 

Slidewhistle, the name, it comes from an object that was always around at that time. Just the first thing I saw when I looked up. It makes me feel sad now to think about those days. You don’t know what you have got until it is gone. A fairly universal feeling.

I recorded it in Paris, and then put it together in the South of France. 

It has just been newly mastered in Berlin by Florian Meindl in June 2024 on his analogue rig. He’s brought out the sounds just as I’d hoped he’d be able to.

I’m not ashamed of this track. So I’m putting it out there. It should form part of an EP I am hoping to release soon of a few old tracks that mean something to me. Working title “Rows of Things, 2014 – 2016”. Watch this space.
