With contributions from artists close to UMF., Farewell Notes celebrates an approach to music that is rebellious in nature and defies expectations to construct its own narrative. it’s a space for artists who have inspired the growth of the noise and experimental scenes around the world to express themselves freely.

the v/a moves through a range of abstract textures and emotions – the hypnotic rhythms and distinctive sounds of Orphx, Volsent and Ciarra Black contrast the soothing, melancholic loops from Vanity Productions and Alessandro Adriani. Chloe Lula,  Kashaiof, DE:MA and Vera Spektor reach for spiritual and ritualistic narratives, Incendie and Silent Servant take an approach rooted in  post-punk & metal, while the psychic & distorted noises of Roxy Farman, Tot Onyx, Hüma Utku complement an exclusive collaboration between Ireen Amnes & Drew McDowall.

The title 'Myth Machine' demonstrates all the richness of meanings that gives us words connected by genitive case: if you want, read it 'The Mythical Machine', or "The Machine Creating Myths".

Ambiguity here plays into our hands. This epic compilation by NEN Records is dedicated to myths as a ways of giving meaning to the suffocating meaningless reality. It is devoted to narratives, coherent or broken, that each of contributors create by their own lives. Perhaps, therefore, the release turned out to be so poly-stylistic, and there is nothing to be surprised at.

And of course, behind all these narratives, lurks the shadow of a huge and hardly perceived Machine, which severely cuts off the plot lines and - arbitrarily, it would seem, draws new ones.

Note: All tracks on the compilation are created on electronic machines of varying complexity, each of which, for sure, has a hidden desire to tell its own machine myth (and you can even distinguish it).

For this volume we will be raising funds for Central American Resource Center (CARECEN-LA) [carecen-la.org], an important LA activist resource/relief organization, who provide low-cost immigration legal services, policy advocacy against our unjust immigration system, and protection of human/civil rights for all immigrants. Additionally they are actively working towards defunding ICE, ending family detention and deportation, and providing much needed Covid-19 relief to many marginalized communities here in LA. ALL profits from the sales of tapes will be donated to this organization. ALL digital sales during the month of July will also be donated.
