The soundcloud tombola, throws together artists scattered throughout the world and across genre boundaries. This year the pop style of guitarist, singer, songwriter, "The Fisherman" ( http://soundcloud.com/#the-fisherman ) paired randomly with the heavy bass, synth and dubstep styles of Blacksun ( http://soundcloud.com/blacksun ) were to be pair number 62.

Lonely Guitar Lost in BigBeat

Labels are for supermarkets and genres are for journalists.

Music is essentially sound that has either been arranged or generated randomly through time exhibiting elements of meaning, structure, harmonic frequencies, silence, pattern and disorder. All these elements are referenced to innate, cultural or experiential concepts. Music is sound organised through time the evokes emotion. 

I've been a musician all my life, having played several instruments and having written and performed songs.

Float23 is the project that arose from experiments that originally started on tape with guitar effects pedals and morphed into software experimentation. 

Having spent years, mostly in solitude, making music as a way to stay sane my sound with float23 is about deconstruction and juxtaposing of disparate concepts. Stylistically diverse it draws together different genres to create sonic journeys that are as humorous as they are evocative. Mostly moving along at 90-141 beats per minute a rather classic dub sound is embellished with electronic beats and samples to create a tapestry that is interwoven with synths and obscure samples. Occasionally straying into thumping dance or beat-less ambiance each track is a unique odyssey. 

The first float23 album "Circus of Wonders" was an experimental downtempo chilled affair. After a few years working on that "difficult second album" I've just released the download version, the CD version will follow soon. The tunes are straying into a darker sounds than when I started. 

The tracks here are sketches mostly, they are not presented as finished so many are quieter, not having been mastered.

The urge to play has returned to challenge the sterile Zeitgeist that is attempting to eradicate it.
