we are not alone inside these ugly yellow walls... portraits of our past selves caught in marked up bathroom stalls- post apocalyptic visions  spread like creeper vines, postulating bullets for the sake of bottom lines. there's a shape I can't see in the back of my mind and it's a strange thing waiting- she has grown forty heads, and they push till I bend into a darkness waiting... in the landscape of a memory is the story were fed by the child who's half dead... in this fiction is contrition. is it plastic we bled through the holes in our heads?

speaking through a channel on an endless gramophone voices of your past selves crackle through these ancient bones. patiently you pass the panicked people in the rain. masochistic weldings of a scar and I'm the same. fill my song with your words, it's so strange and absurd i'm not flattered, it's depressing... letting friends in your bed shape your heart, think ahead to the poison they're making- so hypnotic, cold and caustic, what you build in your head manifests as your thread... people creeping in the shadows, try to drink them away but I can't and they stay

sell the shattered fragments of my memory for a gun, schizophrenic shadows shaping saviors on this run- tulpamancing talons drain the reason from their vein, taking tattered parchments from the book of our remains. spilling pictures of grey onto canvas and space,
collaging memories, waiting. paint the panic we feel into something that's real till its a fashion, aching. seeking focus on the borders of the places we hid, drawing masks on our skin. they are moving in a cycle, pushed and pulled in the tide, waves of motion collide.

NYC based experimental composer Evan Caminiti breathes life into the Dust Editions imprint with the release of his new album Toxic City Music. Caminiti has explored electroacoustic composition since the mid 2000's and in recent years has focused on both deconstructing the guitar and turning to electronics-based compositions, the latest transmission being 2015's Meridian.

Toxic City Music is inspired by the physical and psychic toxicity of life in the rat race of late capitalism. This collection of song mutations unravels in hazy plumes and serrated edges; concrète sounds mesh with melted strings and corrosive electronics, drones ripple under undulating rhythms and noisy FM bursts. Layers of digital degradation are applied to moody guitar phrases, dissolving into a dubby devotional-ambient space.

The album was recorded and produced in Caminiti's NYC studio. It features contributions from Jefre Cantu Ledesma and was co-produced by Rafael Anton Irisarri.

David Kolhne is an anonymous experimental artist that has been active under other guises since the turn of the millennium. We are told that the artist behind this mysterious project is inspired by releases from labels such as 12k and Kranky; his sound straddles the lines between modern Ambient composition incorporating electro acoustic methods. The David Kolhne project started life in 2016 and has seen the occasional self-released work emerge from his Bandcamp page.
It is suggested that David’s location is Vancouver, British Columbia (Canada) however as with many anonymous artists, this may in fact be a smokescreen. Not much can be gleaned from the artist’s profile image either, as a ghostly figure only adds to the disguise.

Typically, Kolhne’s work is structured from soft and hard synth recordings along with recordings of his custom-built instruments, transformed into carefully assembled environments of micro sound. ‘Granular Canvas’ is no different as it sets off on a journey through some 54 minutes of carefully formulated Ambient paintings. However, they are not so much pictures or paintings as they are colour washes, as deep strokes of blue, grey and green dominate the palette. Such tones evoke a sort of sea-spray shade and as you listen, you will be struck by a suggestion of pressure yet somehow, a sense of relaxation. The sounds have the power to both immerse and sooth as you take your own thoughts and ideas to them each listen, day or night, rain or shine.
Kolhne works completely free from concept however, particularly within Granular Canvas as he strips away all narrative in favour of allowing the sounds, noises and tones a voice in which to tell a story. A blank canvas, if you will.

Gravity And Resignation

Floor Overhead is Brooklyn, USA based artist Andrew Farwell who some may recognise from our recent compilation album ‘Whitelabsounds’. His previous output has seen a few self-released projects on Bandcamp and we’re now pleased to be able to present the debut album ‘Uses For Pavement’

Andrew has been playing guitar since the age of 12 and eventually migrated to making electronic and ambient music on computers some years later. His current approach to sound uses guitar recordings deconstructed and processed with inspiration drawn from industry heavyweights such as Steve Reich, Kevin Drumm, William Basinski and Fennesz.

Uses For Pavement is the product of quiet, happy accidents from guitar recordings that have been gently brushed over with some production to create a collage focused on spacing and permanence.
The album is an attempt to refuse the temptation to alter accident-prone inputs and superimpose the ‘shoulds’ of creation. Like thoughts, inputs are inherently unchangeable while our reaction to those inputs is negotiable. The result of this album is a heavy but structure-less space that serves as a shelter for otherwise lost ideas.

ABOUT RIZIK

After putting his creative aspirations on hold for over a decade, 32-year-old Hisham Dahud decided it was now or never.

After a successful run as a respected music marketer and artist educator, he hit an emotional breaking point in 2019 and could no longer ignore the call of artistry.

“Despite whatever success I was seeing on the business side of music, I never once felt this what I was really after,” he says. “I kept honing my craft basically in secret and thinking deeply about who I wanted to be as an artist. The more I followed (and in some cases, even worked with) artists I loved and respected, the more I kept feeling, 'I belong on the creator's side.'"

A self-taught musician since childhood, his artist name Rizik loosely translates to "blessing" in Arabic... but also holds deeper meaning.

“It serves as a reminder to never let go of this innate ability," he says. "I’ve been too scared to fully embrace and accept it as a path for my life—a classic case of imposter syndrome, something I've been battling nearly all my life."

Rizik also happens to be Hisham's mother’s maiden name—his greatest supporter and someone who always trusted him to make the right decisions. This project is also an homage to her.
