During 2020-2021 some of our closest friends moved back to their home countries due to the challenges of the pandemic. Having to say goodbye and accept that the time of living together, meeting up in the evenings and/or being involved in each other's daily lives was over, was a difficult thing to come to terms with.

Seasons are a part of life. With each meeting, loss, move, or stage of growth, we enter a new season. Sometimes we are ready for it, and other times, we aren’t. Sometimes we have control over the change, other times we don’t. This song describes the moment you know a season is about to end, and wanting to hold onto it a moment longer so as to savor it one last time.

Space Between Us tells the story of two friends who care for each other deeply and want to support each other through life’s challenges; the type of friendship that provides space for vulnerability in difficult times. It’s not uncommon to feel like you’re being a burden when things are tough, or fear that you are too much for the people around you. But balanced relationships ebb and flow, and we all need someone in our lives that we can go to when we need support.

Escape

Winter was written during a really difficult period of time for us. Australia’s borders had been closed for almost a year, and with no end in sight, Brea didn’t know when she would be able to return home to see her loved ones. Waiting out a global crisis in a land that isn’t your own, and where one can often feel like a stranger, there were times when Brea and Dom longed to walk through bushland of recognisable trees, to hear familiar birdsong and to hold the ones they love. Like walking through a gray blizzard, with no knowing of how far you have left to go in your journey, the waiting to be reunited with home was long.

Winter

Hidden from You was written as a reflection of Brea’s experience growing up in the Evangelical Pentecostal church where much emphasis is placed on the supernatural realm…and money. Eventually feeling as though she was losing touch with reality, Brea realized her faith was no longer about her relationship with God, but rather how passionately she performed her spirituality, or how much she gave. After stepping away from that environment in 2015, she finally had space and time to ask questions that she’d never dared to ask before. 8 years on, Brea feels as though she is finally beginning to see the damage that so many ideals within this belief system have caused. It’s been a scary process to unpack a belief she was given as a child, but the journey has been worth it, and she has never felt so free and at peace.

Hidden From You

We all know songs about the dizzying sparks of new love or the crushing pain of a breakup, but what about the quiet moments in between? The moments where socks get tangled in the wash, or crumbs are left behind after a quick morning coffee. Everyday Love is a tribute to the beautifully imperfect dance of long-term relationships, where love is built in the small, unglamorous moments. It’s not always fireworks, but we wouldn’t trade this messy, real kind of love for anything.

Brother is a loving tribute to siblings who grew up together in challenging conditions, depending on each other when their home environment lacked a sense of emotional security. The song reflects on their adult lives where they continue to inspire each other to grow. As they learn to heal old wounds, let down their walls, and embrace love, this song celebrates not just their survival, but the enduring strength of their connection.

Flora Falls’ new single, Not a Stop Sign—out June 6th, 2025—is an energetic indie rock reflection on the emotional crossroads we face in relationships. With vivid imagery and driving guitars that evoke a sense of urgency, the track explores how silence can quietly widen the distance between two people. With lines like “Pulling over to have the conversation / I looked into your face but / Couldn’t find the words” the duo capture the vulnerability of struggling to speak up, while “Leave me at the station / See who gets there first” suggests the quiet standoff that can follow. The song is a reminder that unresolved tension doesn’t disappear—it builds—yet with openness, the toughest moments can become turning points. Not a Stop Sign is a duet about movement as it is about emotional honesty, offering a powerful metaphor for choosing to keep going together rather than walking away.

Don’t Need Anything embraces a sonic atmosphere that is reminiscent of a time where people listened to music on gramophones and sat in the living room waiting for their favourite song to play on the wireless radio. This playful duet tells the story of true friendship where people tell you the truth even if you don’t want to hear it. ‘Don’t Need Anything’ would be a great addition to playlists such as ‘Fresh Finds Folk’ and ‘Infinite Indie Folk’.

Don't Need Anything

Shake the Tide was written by three songwriters living abroad, inspired by the quiet ache of being far from family and friends. It reflects those familiar moments of being passed around on a birthday video call, waiting for the right time to connect across time zones, saying goodbye at the airport and hoping your young nieces or nephews remember you when you return, or hearing bad news last because no one knew how to share it from afar.

Despite the joy of building a life elsewhere, there are times when the distance makes you question the cost. Sometimes, all you want is to drive down the road, sit across from someone who knows you best, and a real conversation. The kind that puts everything back into perspective.


Shake the Tide

In 'Young 75' Flora Falls subtly shift from their indie-folk roots, blending their guy-girl harmonies into a sound that fits seamlessly alongside tracks from Big Thief or The War on Drugs. With a laid-back yet driving drumbeat, this song captures the spirit of staying youthful well into later years, evoking a longing for road trips with old friends. Lines like, “If you’re heading down the coast, can you give me a ride? Got some friends I haven’t seen in a while,” perfectly encapsulate this sentiment. "Young 75" would make a fantastic addition to any road trip playlist or serve as the ideal soundtrack for unwinding on the drive home after a long day.

'Wake up' is the debut single from Flora Falls. The song blends Brea Robertson (AUS) and Dominique Fricot's (CAN) unique, powerful voices as they tell a story of dwindling love. The delicate harmonies and minimal instrumentation take listeners on a journey through memory, love and longing. 

Beautifully produced by Lucas Laufen (Embassy of Music) the raw, acoustic production leaves space for the listener to appreciate the song's honesty.

Since the release, 'Wake Up' has been chosen as Indie Folk Central's Song of the Week and featured in Indie Folk Central's Beautiful Calmness playlist. The renowned music blog Conversations About Her also posted about the release, writing that 'emotional single’s meaningful lyrics are set to capture your heart straight away'.

Flora Falls Bio

While Dominique Fricot was relocating to Europe to pursue a career with his band Folk Road Show, Brea Robertson was establishing herself as a solo singer/songwriter, playing intimate Living Room Concerts across Europe. When the two met at an Open Stage in Berlin early 2019, they would schedule the songwriting session that would lay the groundwork for what would soon become Flora Falls. 

With both artists bringing years of experience working in harmony driven projects, their two heartfelt voices immediately found a natural blend. After premiering their originals at Berlin’s songwriter hub of Kindl Stuben, artist/producer Lucas Laufen approached the duo interested in recording their first studio effort. 

As Brea and Dom’s collaborative songwriting uncovers matters of the heart, their captivating harmonies and honest lyrics inspire feelings of nostalgia, as they take listeners on a journey through memory, love and longing. At the heart of every song is a story that explores the depths of our daily struggles, emphasising the different layers of conflict that are hidden in our lives. 

With a sound reminiscent of artists like Angus and Julia Stone and The Civil Wars, Flora Falls makes no attempt to hide themselves behind layers of production. Their sound is raw and minimalistic, accentuating the duo’s honesty and vulnerability. 

In the coming months, Flora Falls plan to release a collection of singles that will make up their Debut EP. The next of which is Figments of Love, due for release early 2021.

Running Up That Hill (acoustic Kate Bush cover - home recording)

After watching a mutual friend go through the trauma of leaving an emotionally abusive relationship, Flora Falls asked the question, what makes a person stay? There is a deep internal struggle when you know a relationship is dysfunctional, but you continue to recognise and experience moments of beauty, vulnerability and tenderness...the figments of love. 

Figments of Love is the second single release from Berlin based acoustic duo, Flora Falls. With Lucas Laufen in the producer’s chair, Brea and Dom have pushed the envelope on how raw and honest a recording can be. In Figments of Love we hear both sides of a failing relationship in Brea and Dom’s heartfelt duet.

A Christmas Song for 2020!

A couple of weeks ago during an isolated yoga session, Brea was contemplating her feelings about not going home for Christmas this year, and the reality of not knowing when she will see her family again. It's heavy. It's a really difficult thing to accept...especially after the challenges of 2020. 

She realised that she wouldn't be the only one (Dom...the other member of Flora Falls can't go back to Canada either!) So we wrote a song called 'To Home, From Berlin' wishing our loved ones at home in Canada and Australia a Merry Christmas. 

We reached out to others who were in the same position and asked them to share a message to their families, where ever they may be. This isn't just a song for people stuck in Berlin...this is for EVERYONE who will be spending the holiday season far from the people they love. After the year we've had, it seems like the thing we needed the most. We received clips from people all over the world! Germany, Australia, Canada, Thailand and beyond...in many different languages. Thank you!

Where the Grass Grows High was written while Brea was visiting family members in Australia, in early 2020. After years of being on the road touring, it took time alone on her parent’s farm to realise that she had completely neglected her relationship amidst the excitement of a travelling around Europe playing music. She finally understood that you can’t expect a relationship to thrive without being intentional about fostering and nurturing it. Soon after writing this song, Brea was placed into an extended lockdown in Berlin giving her endless time with her husband. The irony. 

Where the Grass Grows High was inspired by the realisation that life can easily get in the way of what’s important. Amidst our busy lives we need to be intentional about putting time and effort into the relationships we value, and prioritise adventures into the wild where nothing can disturb you. Lay down in tall grass and hold each other close before the lark sings her morning song.

Margaret Falls

Under the luminous Berlin sky, fate wove Brea and Dom’s paths together at an Open Stage in 2019. Drawn to each other’s artistry as singer-songwriters, they soon found themselves in a songwriting session that would mark the beginning of Flora Falls. From that moment on, their creative partnership flourished, embarking on a journey to craft a sound as intimate as it is powerful.

Their music is a heartfelt embrace—raw, evocative, and laced with moments of humor—inviting listeners into a space of deep vulnerability and authenticity. With the release of their debut EP, Ankle Deep (2021), Flora Falls captivated audiences with its stripped-back production and emotional depth. In 2023, they returned with Hidden from You, an exploration of more personal themes and a refined sonic landscape. The EP resonated widely, earning features in Der Kultur Blog and Music Headquarter, a spot on Spotify’s Indie Brand Neu playlist, and airplay on Flux FM and numerous radio stations across Germany and Europe.
Flora Falls has since taken their music on the road, touring extensively throughout Europe. They were invited to join Folk Road Show (NL) and The Bland (SE) on their 2023 European tours and have shared the stage with international artists Ondara (USA), Tessa Devine (AUS), and Kim Churchill (AUS) in Berlin. They have also established an annual tradition, closing the year with Flora Falls & Friends—a full-band concert featuring local acts that draws hundreds of friends and fans, becoming a cherished highlight for many.

Now, with anticipation building, Flora Falls is unveiling a string of singles from their forthcoming debut album, recorded at Berlin’s legendary The Famous Gold Watch studio with producer Cameron Laing. The first releases, Everyday Love and Brother, have already garnered attention, including live performances on Radio Eins and a feature in ALEX Berlin's One Shot series. Their debut album is set to arrive later this year, marking a bold new chapter in their evolution.

On stage, Brea and Dom transcend the boundary between artist and audience, delivering performances that are both immersive and profoundly genuine. As they continue carving their path through the indie folk landscape, Flora Falls invites listeners on a journey where melodies become memories and stories leave an indelible mark on the heart.
