Two decks and a teenage homemade mixer – who would have thought a school project would launch the career of the fast-rising DJ/producer John Dimas!

Drawn to the sounds of Chicago, Acid and French House, he started collecting records from the likes of Derrick Carter, Chez Damier, Ron Trent and David Duriez, before honing his skills as a DJ in his native Thessaloniki. Quickly gaining a reputation for his unique sets using three turntables and his ear for digging out a hot, rare track, naturally the international club invites followed… Le Nuit Sonore Lyon, The Rainbow Birmingham, Watergate, Katerholzig , Chalet and Tresor in his new home of Berlin.

Moving into the studio, 2008 saw his first release as duo Actor One but more recently he has been focusing on his solo productions. Conjuring up solid house basslines with tech around the edges, Dimas also loves editing to bring surprise to his sets and a few have made it onto white label. Playing live is another form of experimentation with his sets, getting creative with his own tracks to play them in a way never played before.

With EP’s on Bass Culture, Claap, Dame Music and One Records, Dimas kicked off 2013 with his debut LP. Released on La Vie En Rose, John Dimas proves he is very much part of an up-and-coming generation, pushing through with a new avant-garde house sound.

Being head of countless labels, he contributed in shaping the electronic sound from a decade or so. He join our podcast family with a full unreleased 1h40mins cut

Some of them will be released on his labels such as Whiteloops/Blackloops, VOY, Oldivibes, and Hoarder, while others will become a part of his solo album which is out this spring. This allowed him to extensively play with different moods, different genres and to show all shades of his production.

Suolo takes us on a rather exclusive adventure through his signature sound. 
Dinu first came on to my radar with his 'Discern' EP on In Records back in 2016. Since, he's released music on heavyweight labels such as Mulen Records, Lokomotiv, Rora and his own imprint 'Capodopere' among others. It's about time we had him on here.

GH012 podcast comes from John Dimas and is fueled by a strong sentimental value - it was recorded at Parker Lewis’s club closing party in January 2020. We can only imagine how their final chapter was both utterly special and emotionally charged, while we are thrilled to share some of the last tunes played on one of the best German dancefloors. 

Well executed and richly varied, GH012 shows Dimas' full range. The mix opens up seductively with Speedlearn produced by Higher Intelligence Agency, while later on Ex-Terrestrial’s Mojave Skyline casts a spell and pins down one of the recording’s peak moments. The ever-shifting rhythmic systems are a knotted marvel surgically mixed, the overall effect being transcendental.  Enjoy this trip towards very rewarding territory.

This week, we're shining a light on a local artist we've supported since the beginning. In the driving seat of this exclusive mix is Andrei Ciubuc, who shares part of his set from the club, recorded at one of the terrace livestreams during isolation.

Andrei Ciubuc specialises in a reductionist, hypnotic style of of minimal with tech-house influences - which organically turned in him being one of our residents closely affiliated with the club.  Along the 3 hours recording, you are left with an implied beat in the music’s steady pulse, percolating along with that deep groove. Both the selection and surgical mixing are making for this essential mix strengths, gradually homing in on a sleek, punchy and dreamlike sonic departure. 

From ultra-fine minimalistic terrain through to bouncy party fare, this is one of those sets that enact nostalgia and remind us of Sundays after hours affairs when the sun would slightly peak in through the colored wooden boards and the dancefloor was in total harmony. We’re sharing this to remind ourselves what we have to look forward to. Till we meet again!
