This is a totally stolen idea gleaned from another one of those phone conversations with my brother Gary. We talk to each other every few days and normally end up sounding like two old men sitting on a park bench putting the World to rights.

I’m sure a lot of what we say has been said many times before (what hasn’t?) but one day, out of the blue, Gal says to me “ Sometimes I find things too difficult to deal with. I would love the opportunity to step off the world for just one second and clear my head a bit...” At the time I just accepted it as the type of thing we say to each other but two days after the phone call the idea of stepping off the world to escape the pressures of daily life returned when I was playing my guitar. The words “I’m stepping off, I’m stepping off” fitted with what I was playing and the start of a new opus was born.

Once a song seems complete, I generally record a quick demo and send it off to Gal to see if it has any potential. If he thinks it has, between us we try to put a better demo together to send to Hans.  If he thinks it’s any good, he’ll work on an arrangement and more often than not sends back something back that sounds way better than what we’d imagined.  

We might chip in a few ideas here and there (as Gal did with a totally new drum arrangement on this) but Hans is definitely the one that gives it most of it’s final shape and sound.  I love every step of the songwriting process.  It provides a kind of therapy and the creative process gives every day purpose and interest.  You could say it’s my way of stepping off the world for a short moment.

In August 2019 I posted a track made with Adelmo Silva in  the EDM genre.   Adelmo did the mix.   This is a remix of the same track with emphasis on the rock side.   Except for the guitars and some of the percussion I have used the same stems we put down in the original mix (and have shortened the song somewhat).

I have seen Archie live many times – he gives such great performances that I was a bit dubious about posting my own version of his song.   I justify the posting on two grounds: one, this is not one of Archie's best known songs, and, two, I have done this song many times in small venues.

A cover (okay, let's call it a "remake") of the fabulous late-70s "E la luna bussò" by Loredana Berté. I used to play this one with a band a few years ago, and I immediately fell in love with the lyrics.

Obviously I have maneuvered myself out of the comfort zone once more --- apart from the usual walks on very thin ice with singing and trying to get meaningful notes out of a guitar, this time it is about Reggae and strings programming (both things that I have tried to avoid so far in my musical life). Anyway, if you think that violins and cellos do not fit to Reggae: yes, you are right.
