What's the point?

The Point

I’ve been moving toward this moment my whole life.

In 2006, I created a folder for my debut album, setting a release date. Over the years, I kept renaming it with each passing year, until finally, ‘Friends Team’ is out on all platforms in November 2024.

At first, people anticipated the album—friends, subscribers. But as years passed, they stopped asking, “When’s it coming?” I was relieved since the question had become a nerve-wracking reminder of delays.

This journey has been filled with inside jokes between my friend and collaborator Dmitry, who would joke, “The album will drop when a nuclear war starts,” given everything it endured, from COVID to personal upheavals.

After moving to Berlin, I kept testing it, playing it to friends, family, and even labels. One American label listened from start to finish, as I discovered through Bandcamp stats.

Somehow, this album became known before its release, played in impromptu listening sessions, at festivals, on the street, and at events. I performed songs that no one knew yet—no one sang along; they hadn’t heard them.

The final lyric was a cathartic moment. Afterward, I took a hot shower that felt like a soul reset. Writing lyrics for my first album was monumental, especially in English, a language I don’t fully master. But I wanted it that way, so I crafted lyrics line by line, patiently aligning rhyme and rhythm to melodies initially sung in a nonexistent language.

The cover art came first, then song titles—symbols from my life, reflecting themes that revealed themselves gradually. I saw the entire album before holding a master copy.

With my co-creator Arttom, we pursued true artistry. Over a decade, our visions combined into something unique, pushing boundaries with voice manipulations and wild experiments. We smoked a lot, detached from the world, immersing ourselves in this work.

In solitude, I meditated, giving up pleasures, watching time pass as the album consumed me. It demanded my total devotion until my identity fused with it, and I couldn’t separate myself from it. By the end, I felt changed, eight years older, with fears and uncertainties about the future.

Yet, that excitement, that drive, remains. This album has been the center of my life, and I believe it will guide me back to myself.
