Soaring into Brooklyn at terminal velocity from the Mile High City of Denver, Nestra's performance at BK Mirage landed in the dead center of a 12 hour marathon cutting-edge dance floor music. Known as an impeccable selector and DJ in her home city, it's no surprise that she hit the decks with extreme prejudice. After being boots on the ground ourselves for the ensuing frenzy, we're incredibly excited to host Nestra's recorded set in posterity as the 50th edition of Rusted Rhythms.

Stepping squarely out of the boundaries of her contemporaries sharing the stage, Nestra's hour in the spotlight featured a whiplash cocktail of breakbeat, house, and a dash of psybient attitude. The frenetic rhythms and the driving low end featured throughout the mix come from a deep well of talent, including the likes of Nikki Nair, Guau, and Sam Binga, with each track burning serious rubber out of each successive transition. Hey Gang. Love the vibe of the original, so I aimed to keep the melody motif and vocals alive and prominent in this flip. Really dug the afro-carib groove found within, and I brought it toward some guttural and tribal essence with plenty of percussions, throat singing and deep basses. Cranked up the energy to 11 too. I imagined creating a track that might actually get played in a Major Lazer set and one that fit my style as well. As usually I used some very nature inspired sounds, including some baby gator calls–hence the artwork. If this gets some booties bouncin' or even better gets some feet moving lightening quick like the Zaouli dance, then I'm stoked. Enjoy your new year and be well my people.
