(NIGHTMAR08) LAB REPORT: Audio Construction Timeline: 14 Days

At 0:27, you’ll encounter “Destruction,” introduced by a sharp, high-pitched sound. It loops briefly, inviting you to experience its raw, unsettling essence. By around the 3:00 mark, you’ll sense this Destruction wrapping around your ankles, and by 8:00, we hit that peak moment.

This is “the moment.”

You’ll feel Destruction sweeping past you, like a serene yet fierce dragon. It’s profound, as if you’re locking eyes with it, and it might take a moment for that intensity to register.

- Take a moment to observe as the destruction flows by.

- But remember... the "Destruction" will present itself as a final "blip" in the waveform.

- You’re bound to feel its presence.

**The Inspiration Behind the Song:**

**Beta Waves (High-Frequency Activity):**
- Beta waves are the brain's rapid signals, firing away when we’re fully engaged—whether that's during lively wakefulness or even in the depths of REM sleep.
- You may observe your eyes darting around or notice the occasional twitch in your muscles.
- Your heart rate might increase, and you could find your breathing becomes quick and shallow.
- It's in this vibrant state that our most vivid dreams take shape.

**Let’s Explore Perception:**

What we perceive, be it what we see, hear, or feel, is deeply shaped by our expectations.

In essence, our perceptions often align with what we anticipate. Expectations come in various forms, with context playing a crucial role. 

To illustrate just how context can shift our perception, here’s a quick exercise:

Time yourself as you read the following two sentences aloud, and see how swiftly you can get through them:

1. "Form as to arranged and the randomly quickly are example accurate words easier meaningful much a, therefore, words sentence these in and then read same preceding the."

2. "These words form a meaningful sentence and are, therefore, much easier to read quickly and accurately than the same words randomly arranged as in the preceding example."

You might have noticed that the first sentence took a bit longer to read. That's because the second one is more cohesive and structured, allowing for smoother reading and better understanding. On the flip side, the first sentence feels jumbled and confusing, making it tougher to grasp.

Moreover, your personal interests, career, and personality traits play a big role in how you perceive things around you. This connection often comes into play in tests that use ambiguous images to uncover aspects of one's personality. A classic study by Bartlett highlighted this, showing that people's interpretations of inkblots often reflect their interests and job roles.

Interestingly, these tendencies in perception also show up in clear-cut scenarios. For instance, in research by Clifford and Bull, both police officers and civilians watched hours of city street footage with the task of identifying suspects in mugshots and distinguishing between legal and illegal activities. Even though they were watching the same video, police officers reported spotting more suspected thefts than civilians. This difference stems from the fact that officers typically expect to see crime, which influences their viewpoint. Consequently, our expectations can shape how we interpret the world around us.

Reconciliation

My music is freely improvised, usually on VST synthesizers, sometimes fretless bass, guitar, occasionally electric viola or cello, with a variety of effects pedals. Solo music is performed live and recorded as 'FlownBlue'.  I am also in four improvising duos: 'Windfall Light' (with Jim Tetlow), 'Abstract Blue' (with Kevin Buckland), 'Light Fragments' (with Steve Escott), and Szukanie (with Michał Wojciechowski).
