The water in lake Eerie is getting cold. And cold water tastes so bittersweet. I saw a picture of you in Port Stanley. Here's to a history on repeat. But bad luck is just a stupid trick of fortune anyway. And the stars shining last night. Your blue eyes above the bay. Sink your feet into the cool, cool sand. The tide ebbs. Everything is wet. I've imagined myself holding on to your hand. On the horizon, I saw your silhouette. But bad luck is just a stupid trick of fortune anyway. And the stars shining last night. Your blue eyes above the bay. I said I went and I bet five dollars and they were gone in a minute. Then I went and bet five dollars more and her heart went with it.

Yet again, I set some rules and left the synths dreaming while I had a nap.

This (with a bit more intervention after the fact this time) is the result.

Machine Dreaming Blue

Raymond's 'grim' haiku took me to a more experimental place than usual, and I dusted off a real synthesizer: Korg Minilogue XD. Improvised, as always, with minimal editing, so rather random. Held together by being played (more or less) in D Dorian. Recorded in Reaper. Effects (Frostbite2 and Seventh Heaven reverb) included in original take. Mastered with CloudBounce.

Relics (naviarhaiku414)

15 years old, at this time, at least the original recording I did is. The only thing that remains in this from 2006 is the vocal.  I guess I could have re-recorded it, but I wanted to keep a lock onto something from the time I originally wrote and recorded it.  The original backing is little to be desired, these days at least!      

I like how everything has come together in this, especially in the verses - almost sounds like a small group recording a single take, maybe not 100%, but I think it sounds reasonably natural. 

Continuing to adjust old songs right now, in the interests of connecting with that time, way back when I had dreams, very particulary ones anyway!

Founded on a belief that ideas and solutions evolve over time, it sometimes feels like we progress gradually in circles!  It can feel like being in a maze.  Today’s track started with an idea on the marimba, somewhere!  What do you think?

13 Aug 25 Mass Confusion

My music is freely improvised, usually on VST synthesizers, sometimes fretless bass, guitar, occasionally electric viola or cello, with a variety of effects pedals. Solo music is performed live and recorded as 'FlownBlue'.  I am also in four improvising duos: 'Windfall Light' (with Jim Tetlow), 'Abstract Blue' (with Kevin Buckland), 'Light Fragments' (with Steve Escott), and Szukanie (with Michał Wojciechowski). I'm a member of the Quadelectronic improv group based in Leicester, UK. Duo music is all on Bandcamp - links below.
