This is my first recorded ambient set, played live at the intimate, cozy, safe space of Koala Karnival. Thank you Elle for the invitation and to everyone in attendance for the space to express myself through soundscapes and vibrations. I will forever be grateful for this opportunity. ❤️

This set is a collection of some of the most important pieces of music to me, discovered over the years and crafted into a coherent order over several weeks. My intention in opening this edition of Koala Karnival was to allow attendees to ground through organic and natural sounds, feel through some deeper tones, and travel through some of the spacier explorations. Some of the artists featured here are East Forest, Akal Dub, Nala Sinephro, Nuages, Kora, Warmth, the powerful words of Ram Das, and others who have inspired me in my musical discovery and curation. Many of these songs have been played in my yoga classes for years, so it felt right to play them in my first ambient set. 

Unwind, relax, take a deep breath, and let go. I hope you enjoy listening to this set just as much as I enjoyed playing it.

Brick Wall ‘the standout track of the night’ (Beatnik Events) is the next single from Phoebe Coco’s forthcoming debut album. A story narrated by Phoebe Coco’s signature voice and piano, the harmonies of her twin sisters Grace and Dorothy with undulating synth bass, drum machines and shakers, it takes us to the immovable brick wall, the lives of kids growing up and even to swirling psychedelic fields. Out on Sharp Attack Records with a music video on the 5th of June this is a live favourite at Phoebe’s gigs, with an ‘instantly memorable melody’, and is sure to get you singing along, as we too break away from the barrier of the Brick Wall and into a new place altogether. 


 With a live stream gig on the same weekend it’s out on the 5th of June via Sharp Attack Records, co-produced by Phoebe Coco with Marc Makavov and Vanessa Anne Redd and mixed by Grammy Award winning Eduardo De Le Paz.

Being asked to provide an online three and a half hour mix of music is an amazing opportunity to really tell a story, to go places you perhaps don’t often get to go as a DJ and explore a merging of genres that you perhaps seldom get to do (especially not in a club environment). As we all know, 2020 has been a psychologically challenging year and I have not been immune. When I started to conceptualise this mix, my mind was quite far removed from any visions of a smoke-filled venue or sun-drenched festival and was, perhaps more particularly, in a reasonably difficult headspace. The music I was drawn to, that I felt reflected where I was at is included in this mix. This is not a 'traditional style' of DJ mix and it’s most certainly more of a ’slow-burn’ style as some would say, sometimes taking its time to absorb the scenery and taking a few detours along the way. I do hope people listen to this with a patient, open mind and can connect to the aural stories that are told here- the sadness, uncertainty, hope, contemplation and ultimately, the human connection and joy. In parts, I’ve attempted to juxtapose different layers, join some interesting dots and create something beautiful for everyone.
Thank you so much to the Flow folks for asking me to contribute to this excellent series and I hope we can all reflect on 2020, take the gratitude and whatever else we have individually learnt from these circumstances and be the best we can be in 2021. x

Wow, hadn't realised what a journey SoundCloud would take me on.  After many years of passive listening to music I've dieted on a variety of tastes. My appetite for new sounds is undiminished and SC provides plenty of food. I am not a musician and have only recently started to listen positively to the sounds.
