In Berlin’s vibrant club scene, it’s easy to become another artist lost in the crowd. To stand out, musicians must bend genres, take risks and keep fans on their toes, always anticipating what’s next. Niconé does just that. Constantly creating and always innovating, this German DJ and producer doesn’t shy away from a challenge. Alexander Gerlach started Niconé in 2007 as a project promoting music and fashion – he has a knack for graphic design and an interest in clothing alongside his passion for music. Since the beginning of his music career, he’s released a string of albums and EPs, both solo and with artists like Sascha Braemer, Jan Blomqvist, and Philip Bader to name just a few. Niconé’s music cannot be defined simply by a genre, but rather, a feeling: the feeling when a dance floor full of strangers unites to form a singular mass, all dancing to a common beat; of the sun coming up in the early morning as a party reaches its peak; of the hours spent conversing with new friends as after-hour tracks pound in the distance; of nostalgia for years-gone-by balanced by an excitement for what’s to come. Dantze, the label he founded together with Philip Bader in 2006, has become a platform for releasing the works of talents like Britta Arnold, Gunjah and Daniel Dreier. The label embraces several electronic music styles that convey similar euphoric feelings experienced when listening to Niconé’s own tracks, but all in their very own way. His releases on labels like Stil vor Talent, Katermukke, Bar 25 Music and of course, Dantze, take in influences including deep house, tech-house, old-school electronic music as well as non- electronic genres. But the classifications aren’t what’s important – it’s all about conveying a feeling, something Niconé does masterfully.

The Flow sessions are a very unique podcast series. The project gives the artists so much more space to present their musical vision, and that's exactly what I did in my contribution. I love long DJ sets because with each hour I get deeper into my flow and can take people on a journey with me.  We start with a more leisurely pace, driving through the vastness of indie dance tracks, and spiraling more and more into the worlds of deep and melodic house. My mix winds through the many facets of my DJ sets and includes the different visions of modern electronic music that I like to present on the dancefloors of the world. Over time, the journey becomes more energetic and lands in the realm of more techno sounds. I love to tell stories and gain momentum over time to celebrate music together ecstatically. Describing the sound and sonics aesthetics of Robin Schellenberg’s music, one could tend easily to use bold buzzwords like „Melodic Techno“ or „Deep House“  – but there is something more to it: his productions oscillate effortless through a soft dystopian void full of sweeping build up’s: His tracks are drifting endlessly into an infinite sky, twisting from warm unisons into harsher electronics, just to break down into well-tempered saturated up-tempo beats. It's not Dark Techno by definition, but Robin often gets driven towards its aesthetic, without drifting into its cold industrial repetition. His tracks feel like a deep yearning for the horizon, pulling the dancer tenderly forward with soft melancholy. In his DJ-Set’s all of this falls into place, with tempi from 119 – 125 bpm, blending deep, dark and psychedelic elements into heavy sweeping bangers, to slowly lead the dance floor into a sweet and endless decay. Robin released music with labels like Stil Vor Talent, Katermukke, Einmusika and has upcoming releases scheduled for Stil Vor Talent & Katermukke in 2023.

Viele Jahre wandere ich nun schon als einsamer Abenteurer durch die Wildnis. Immer auf der Suche nach meiner Bestimmung. Mit der Sonne als Taktgeber für meine Reise ins Unbekannte durchstreifte ich Berge und Täler, Flüsse und Seen, Wälder und Steppen. Die Ruhe verleitete mich zum jetzigen Leben und die Weisheit der Natur bewegte mich zum Bleiben. Hier Draußen konnte ich erfahren was Schönheit bedeutet, aber auch wie brutal das Leben sein kann. Meine Umgebung lehrte mich wachsam zu bleiben, was mir die Augen öffnete. Nun nehme ich Dinge wahr, die jenseits der Normalität liegen. Einzelne unscheinbare Geräusche können mir nun mehr Geborgenheit vermitteln als ein stundenlanges Gespräch unter Freunden. Mein Verstand ist mit Flora und Fauna im Einklang. Ein blindes Verständnis entwickelte sich, geleitet über Gesten statt über Wörter. So konnte ich viel über mich und meine Umwelt lernen und mit mir ins Reine kommen. Glücksgefühle durchströmen nun regelmäßiger meine Nervenstränge und erweichen hier und da meine versteinerte Miene. Doch das Gefühl der Einsamkeit schleicht sich wieder in mein Herz. Gerade an Tagen wie diesen… Ich erhebe meinen Flachmann und trinke auf ein weiteres Jubiläum.

Das DJ- und Produzenten-Duo Bergstock, bestehend aus Lukas und Kevin, stammt aus Köln und hat sich auf melodischen Techno spezialisiert. Ihr Sound ist geprägt von tiefen emotionalen Momenten sowie punshigen Höhepunkten. Genau diese Mischung präsentieren sie auch in der 200ste Ausgabe unseres Podcasts.

In 2016 I went to -now my dear friend, back then only my favorite DJ- Mira's birthday at Kater Blau for the first time. I was super into music, making mixtapes at home, going to so many parties and writing about them but not a DJ yet.

The vibe of the club, the music in all floors, and the fact that Mira is big supporter of female acts and seeing all these badass women playing mind-blowing music at this party had its mark on me.

Watching these legends Mira, Britta, Mimi Love, Mila Stern, Caleesi, I wanted to do it myself and I found the motivation, courage and inspiration because they were also women like me! Representation is so important!

In the following years I kept going to this party for my yearly dose of inspiration and of course fun!

Over the years, inspired by Mira and being colleagues now, we became friends and her impact on my life wasn't just musical. She's such a wise and wholesome person with integrity and the heart in all in the right places, that having her as a friend and inspiration definitely made me a better person and my journey of the new international touring DJ way smoother.

in 2021 I was even supposed to play for Mira's 44th birthday for the first time but the pandemic... (I mean I don't even need to finish this sentence). I ended up playing her 44.5 in Summer, the Ersatz Katzen party :)

Anyway, fast forward to 7 years and the birthday queen not only invited me to play her 46 Katzen party but also gave me the biggest honor of taking over the stage after her.

Playing Thursday in NYC, Friday in Montreal, flying back to Europe on Saturday, Sunday noon I arrived to Berlin like a zombie. Sleep before and after the set is hard but during... Actually not that bad. I was on a dream state throughout my set.

It felt really like a dream playing in a room not too long ago gave me the inspiration to be here today celebrating a women who always lifts others up as she rises. 

I also played music from my label Marginalia, I heard Mira and Mila Stern playing Marginalia too and I also two new artists from Marginalia family, Bakayan and D’aria were In the room when I played their unreleased music! What a moment 
I stayed sleep dancing until late because of all the incredible music

what an honor to play at this unique birthday celebration, I am grateful to life
