Having honed his craft with some choice releases on the likes of Toy Tonics, Razor N Tape, Quintessentials and Shall Not Fade, home to his forthcoming debut LP, Bogota-born and based house DJ and producer Felipe Gordon now steps up on Fluid Funk with the six-track “Sincopa Liquida” EP, featuring New York / Detroit / Atlanta legend Kai Alcé and London’s funk master Aroop Roy on remix duty. 

First in line, ”Sincopa Liquida” treats us to a carnival of soulful Rhodes stabs, jazz trumpet solos à la Saint-Germain and accordion-like groove, all infused with a subtle retro charm. Evoking the classic French sound from the Roulé years, “Samplin’ N’ Slappin’“ comes in two versions - the original relying on a much syncopated swing, complete with mangled vocals and strings, whilst Aroop Roy’s rework turns it into a more straightforward DJ-friendly weapon, sure to up the room’s temperature effortlessly. 

Flip sides and here comes the deeper “Obtuso”, a vibrant throwback to Chicago house’s heyday; its rough shuffling rhythm and muscular bass beautifully contrasting with the brittleness of crystalline piano chords and trumpet echoes out a smokey jazz-club backroom. The lush and dreamy “Evolving Textures” then heads for a more luminous, light-hearted pathway, where bouncy piano chords dance along discreet slap-bass riffs, as Kai Alcé revisits the track into a more physical, jacking house number - preserving the original’s weightless elegance, whilst breathing in further floor-ready character into the cut.

PREMIERE : Felipe Gordon - Evolving Textures (Kai Alcé interpretation)

Following up to Rob Belleville’s inaugural delivery, Fluid Electronics returns in 2021 with a new collaborative EP courtesy of Dutch veteran Jarno, the man behind Trouw's infamous Below evenings, and Fluid Electronics’ co-founder and owner Shirazi, back in full swing after a ten-year break from production. The EP features remixes from Amsterdam’s Love Over Entropy and seminal Rotterdam-based duo, Duplex. 

The A-side finds Shirazi and Jarno dishing out a vaporous dub with the focus track, “Late Night Thoughts”. Engineering a mix of reverb-drenched atmospheric techno laced with hedonistic house accents and mystique-imbued melodies on a dreamy tip. Upping the tempo and overall vibe of the track, Love Over Entropy’s remix propels its listener in a blazing corridor of synth arpeggios and luminous chords.

The flip side sees Shirazi go solo on the ethereal “Continue Learning”, all in evocative spaciousness and textural finesse, as it merges the immersive depth of Basic Channel-esque envelopes with further straightforward floor dynamics. Clone-affiliated duo Duplex provides a tighter, jacking match to the original’s vaster headspace, tweaking it into a proper clinical club-ready weapon.

New drop in Fluid Funk’s steady stream of groovy, feel good releases, Sven Wegner's lush “Night of Light EP” attests to the Hamburg producer’s successful U-turn from the classic house and techno formulas towards further sample-heavy wares and photovoltaic funk joints. The EP is scheduled for landing on October 29th.

Starting off with the dislocated jazz swing of its title-track, the EP lays down an instantly rousing, easy-to-love vibe throughout the room. “Night of Light” is a laid-back slice of jazz house, not quite picking a side between the effusive smoothness of its drum work and the many potentialities of its ruff taped sampling knocked askew. More of a functionally loop enhanced with Irish violin hoodoo and near-abstract processed samples, “Babette” makes for a much lovable bit of bucolic DJ functionality.

Dipping toes in a swelteringly sensual nightly ambience,“French Late Night” lets the bass talk. A chiseled mosaic of RnB vocal samples dressed with deadly piano stabs emerging like shiny knives out red velvet drapes, and there comes a seriously infectious night of alcove boogie. Doing just what's written on the tin, “Sunny Your Mind” teleports us to warm blankets of white sand with cocktails in our hands and little straw hats floating amidst the vivid gradation of its gently inebriating flavours. Debuting on Fluid Funk with a lush and lax voyage dreamy coastal scapes, Dutch artist with Japanese / American heritage Uzu Moon dishes out feel-good, Cali-funk-informed vibes by the dozen over the course of four delectably smooth tracks, infused with elements of LA beat, soulful house and post-balearic elevation - including a rework from Cody Currie. 

A bespoke late-summer joint to bump out loud in your open-top, “Asa” gets the ball rolling slo-mo style, brittle piano stabs chiming alongside mangled rap samples, playful acid spurts and a languid jazzy shuffle to drive it all. Funky synth hooks blazing, “Sunder, Love” lets off washed-out RnB vibrations over beds of 303-emulating squelch, topped off with a guitar solo a la Santana like you’re chilling out in Venice Beach. 

“When I Get Home, I’ll Know It’s Over” then heads for the opposite side of the Pacific with its koto-esque resonances, soft tapping drums and rugged acid loops weaving a melancholia-laced, loungey narrative for the dance floor and not. “Sunder, Love” as reshaped by Shall Not Fade affiliate Cody Currie revs things up two notches further, turning the original into a doped-up chugger, primed for sustained hustlin’ n bustlin’ in the ballroom with its convulsive congas and vaporous melody fluttering like a groovy butterfly.
