"Victoria Street" from the Head First DVD project.

When I first moved to St John's, I rented an apartment on the middle block of Victoria Street. Now I live at the top of Victoria Street where everyone is scared to park because of how steep the street is. Victoria Street is home - I love my neighbours and the vibe of living on this street that has so much history. 

Gina Rae Anderson's touching film was shot on a sunny summer day and will be a day I will never forget. Since this film was made, relationships have come and gone, cars have been sold and replaced and neighbours have moved to new homes. But the street remains as beautiful as ever and the top of Victoria still has one of the most breathtaking views in the city. So grateful to be living on Victoria Street with such a wonderful and warm group of people. St. John's is for families. : )

"Head First" from The Head First DVD project is about taking risks and jumping into unknown territory without letting fear get in the way. I was fortunate to try the ice sport, skeleton at Canada Olympic Park many years ago and the experience was like no other. I was both the most terrified and most excited I have ever been.

Imagine going down the ice track, head first at 90kms an hour!!! It was then that I decided I would write a song about what it felt like to take a run down that particular track and the happy high you get afterwards.

I researched the exact timing of every turn on that track and made a map of tempo changes and time signatures. When Curtis Andrews was in St. John's, he improvised to my musical map and then a song was born. It took a few years before I was able to develop the song because it's so out there.

Netherlands filmmaker, Flamingo Pudding did a wicked film for this that gives the perfect fun vibe for the skeleton sport.

Thank you to Jason Hachey aka MouthPEACE for the awesome beatboxing, Geof Holbrook for the wicked bass synth and Rick Bailey for the ice sounds. I also would like to thank Mike Kwik for getting me on the track and his guidance, Turc Harmesynn who has been a huge supporter and Alexis Gagnon Morris for the use of his POV footage. Thanks also to Josh Tidsbury for the mix and master and to Krisjan Leslie who helped me develop the song over many many months in the studio.

'Dempster Highway' from the Head First DVD project was inspired by one of the most sublime places in Canada I have ever experienced, the Dempster Highway in the Yukon Territory. Every Canadian should experience this magical place for themselves at least once in their lifetime.
