This piece sets words by Mother Julian of Norwich and was commissioned by Multitude of Voyces. It is performed by the Godolphin Ensemble.

A_Slaughter_of_Ravens (clarinet & piano)

This quartet is inspired by the Shetland dialect poem, Soondscapes, by Christine De Luca. The poem describes a scene where an old chapel and a turbine are side by side. The music is about old and new, threat and promise.

I, Robert Gordon Of Gordonstoun

This is a trio for clarinet, violin and piano written in 2010. It portrays the thoughts of a young soldier during his first night stationed on the bleak, exposed cliff top - Hoxa Head - in Orkney during World War II. It was written as part of a collaboration with painter Johan Thomson.

A piece created from found sounds based on a response to standing in the remains of the control tower at HMS Tern, Orkney, imagining the feelings of those engaged in sending and breaking codes during WW2. This track was part of an installation with sculptor, Craig Ellis, at Gallery17 performed at the 2016 Aberdeen Sound Festival.

The Fabian Strategy (Electroacoustic)

A description of Caliban's emotions as depicted in Shakespeare's play, 'The Tempest'. Commissioned by bassoonist, Lesley Wilson, for inclusion on her album, 'A Much-travel'd Clown'.

An electronic soundscape constructed with found sound for an art installation in collaboration with sculptor, Craig Ellis, at Gray's School of Art, and performed in the 2015 Aberdeen Sound Festival.

Found (Electroacoustic)

A dramatic description of the fluctuating emotions experienced on first discovering betrayal by a trusted one. It is an interlude from the opera 'The Story of Magnus Erlendsson', commissioned by St Magnus International Festival, and performed in June 2017 in Kirkwall Cathedral.

Always By the Shore (solo piano)

A sextet that describes a headland in Deerness, Orkney where the ship 'Crown of London' sank in 1679 with 250 Scottish Covenanters on board. Workshop performance by the RCS ensemble.

Sounds of the traditional Norwegian Hardanger fiddle are imitated by solo viola played by Katherine Wren of Nordic Viola. Performed at Dunblane cathedral in 2019.

The Enquiry (violin & piano)

Gemma McGregor is a composer from Orkney and a member of the Scottish Music Centre. Her compositions feature a strong narrative, often influenced by the landscape, history and culture of Orkney and contain references to traditional music and birdsong. Following postgraduate studies at the University of Aberdeen, Gemma has had two operas performed - the first commissioned by the Sound Festival in 2015, and the second by St Magnus Festival in 2017
