A Marian apparition is a reported supernatural appearance by Mary, the mother of Jesus, or a series of related such appearances over a period of time. In order to be classified as a Marian apparition, the person or persons who claim to see Mary must claim that they see her visually located in their environment.  Each alleged apparition comes with a divine message, which over the centuries has become more a warning of apocalyptic things to come if man does not change his ways.

The understood purpose of each apparition is to draw attention to some aspect of the Christian message, given the needs of a particular time and place. Apparitions are often accompanied by other alleged supernatural phenomena, such as medical cures. However, such miraculous events are not considered the purpose of Marian apparitions, but exist primarily to validate and draw attention to the message.

The events at Garabandal began on June 18, 1961 when four girls eleven and twelve years old, Mari Loli Mazón, Jacinta González, Mari Cruz González and Maria "Conchita" Concepción González said that they saw an angel. The angel made another appearance on June 25. The story quickly spread throughout the village. They subsequently reported seeing the Blessed Virgin. These claims continued for a number of years.

In honour of Dr John Shears and his team for finally finding the wreck of Sir Ernest Shackleton's ship, the Endurance, after lying on the polar seabed for over 100 years.  The challenges involved mirror Shackleton's own challenges much like their success mirrors Shackleton's success in rescuing his men.  This is an excellent example of leadership in action, something much needed in the current troubled times.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, also known as the Virgin of Guadalupe, is a Catholic title of the Blessed Virgin Mary associated with a series of five Marian apparitions in December 1531, and a venerated image on a cloak enshrined within the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City. The basilica is the most-visited Catholic shrine in the world, and the world's third most-visited sacred site.

The Roman Catholic Church recognized Lourdes as a holy place in 1862 and Bernadette's visions of Mary in a cave as authentic.  Mary is the main reason why Lourdes is so significant because it is the site where she appeared to put herself forward to heal people and set miracles. Catholics today deepen their faith through Mary who appeared near the site in 1858.

The Marian apparitions at Fatima were reported in 1917 by three shepherd children at the Cova da Iria, in Fátima, Portugal. The three children were Lúcia dos Santos and her cousins Francisco and Jacinta Marto.

The published memoirs of Lúcia dos Santos in the 1930s revealed two secrets that she claimed came from the Virgin while the third secret was to be revealed by the Catholic Church in 1960. The controversial events at Fátima gained fame due partly to elements of the secrets, prophecy and eschatological revelations allegedly related to the Second World War and possibly more global wars in the future, particularly the Virgin's alleged request for the Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
