Troma & PERS1 return to Canadian imprint Aquaregia Records this June with five melodic techno cuts entitled ‘Kaede’ EP.
Troma & PERS1 began their creative journey in the small seaside town of Granville in northwestern France. As conveyed through their raw acid compositions, the impeccable chemistry of the duo stems from their close relationship as brothers growing up in the tight-knit commune. Drawing inspiration from the beauty of the sea fringed by the rocky landscapes of the Normandy coast, their music is a crafted concoction of hypnotic sounds, bold melodies, and breath-taking basslines. Troma & PERS1’s productions and live-sets alike seek to hypnotize with a balance between consciousness and delirium, light and darkness in their evocative creations. Their ‘Kaede’ EP sees the duo team back up with the Aquaregia family following their three previous releases on the label over the last few years.
Troma & PERS1 explore a range of styles on this EP, from hypnotic techno to breakbeat, all with the common thread of acid. Title track ‘Kaede’ kicks off the EP with gentle synth flutters, graceful melodies and echoing drums before ‘Samara’ continues with euphoric 303s, cinematic pads that sit harmoniously underneath the resounding kick drums.
On the flip, ‘Crimson Breath’ lays focus on hypnotic soundscapes, dreamy chord progression, and blissful moods that captivate you effortlessly until ‘Autumn Moon’ delivers arpeggiating modulations, emotional hooks and breezy fx with heavenly undertones. The EP is accompanied by a breaky 808 version of ‘Autumn Moon’ with icy high-hats and angelic leads, released as a digital bonus.

Brandon Riley. Dedicated to musical expression, immersion,

The CMND CTRL sound will focus mainly on the Techno and Tech House
related genres, and on this second release (CTRL002) we dive into a
darker, more tribal and hypnotic style of Techno.

King Snake lays the groundwork with its booming kick drum, seductive
percussion, and hypnotic synth overtones that continuously rise and fall
throughout the mix. A relentlessly driving track perfect for that late
night DJ session.

King Snake (Ray Kajioka Remix) Berlin based Techno wizard Ray Kajioka takes the reigns on this release’s remix duties and delivers a fast-paced take on the original mix. Ray’s production abilities are on full display with this remix as he rains down wild high hats and percussions
matched with a steady kick and well-timed synth stabs. A guaranteed
crowd pleaser.

The Passage brings a bit more of a dark and dreamy style mix to the
dancefloor with some well-placed percussion giving this track a
mysterious tribal techno vibe. Warm sounding sonic textures playout
through the mix, with a nice pulsing analogue synth hook driving the
main part of the track. Definitely a strong track to build up a crowd
with.

Tokyo techno maven Risa Taniguchi unveils “When I See You” EP on the formidable Second State. No stranger to the Berlin label, Taniguchi released her “How We Dance Again” EP just last year, in addition to a number of contributions to the label’s compilation series.

Warped synth keys, claps, flurried hi-hats and a muffled kick welcome you into “Mute Everything”. Chopping, skittish percussions cut and jolt across the heaving bass, simulating a frantic energy. A rolling 303 line dances with brightly shining synth notes. Towards the close, the synths are stripped away and the percussion takes over once again, with only the subdued acid and bass line at play.

This is the fourth and final track in my PM project. These tracks are written, sampled, arranged and performed in a single two hour sitting.

This track was put together around a sample of a shoegazey guitar riff. It didn't really make sense until I dropped the big kick drum and then it went off in a techno direction, and I I added the burbling arpeggiated synths.

There are loads of effects on here as usual - the one that sticks out to me is the tonalizer applied to the beat (from Turnado). It adds some movement into the track which I find really propels the whole thing along. Turnado is really very cool although I only have the vaguest grasp of what I'm doing with it! Sometimes though I think a lack of mastery can be an advantage!

I ran this track through SubmitHub to find the genre, it tells me:

That's probably about right this time!

I've had brilliant fun with this project, all four tracks have come out well but very differently which I'm pleased about. Next step in the project is to put these together into a set which I can perform live.

I've also done an AM series of tracks, which is quite a different vibe. I'll be releasing them soon (January probably).

Token is pleased to announce Metabolism, the sophomore album from Sigha. The LP marks James Shaw’s third release on the Token label following his singles Christ Figures and Our Father. Metabolism represents an arrival: the artist offers his definitive statement on a production aesthetic that has been in development over the last few years.

Shaw’s work as Sigha has always placed the listener at a centrifugal point that invites a clandestine hypnosis rather than an abject hysteria. Cavernous low ends fixed firmly and effectively in a mono space tether the music to the body, while exquisitely executed white noise patterns and crystalline pads warp and hiss around the stereo environment. This keen ear for distinction within the frequency spectrum acts as the central theme on the LP.

Metabolism encompasses a power dynamism that departs from the explicitly greyscale finish found on his more conceptual work as Sigha and as A Vision Of Love for Guy Brewer’s Avian label. Though elements of Metabolism maintain a driven, corrosive quality, each searing sequence or mordant drum machine hit occupies its own space. On high-energy dance floor moments and abstract tracks alike, Shaw’s approach to distortion is one that sets out with an objective to separate components rather than to bind them. This creates a matrix of aural stimuli that remain heady and inherently propulsive, but are realised in a fashion more akin to high fidelity sound design than processes traditionally associated with the techno genre.

The record possesses a powerful musicality beyond this acute attention to form and structure. In the past, Shaw’s productions have often married high-energy drum work with subtly shifting minor keys spread around the sonic periphery. On Metabolism, emotive leads sit squarely and comfortably in the foreground, and build towards rapturous crescendos that are crisp and omnipresent throughout the mix. These careful layers generate the extraordinary tension that has since become a hallmark of the British artist’s work.

Metabolism is a techno album, but its frame of reference is generous, drawing on the finest facets of the artist’s own varied discography and the wider electronic music landscape. Cohesive and modern, Shaw’s latest work eschews a handful of riffs on a single idea in favour of a multi-faceted, fully realised expression of what the genre can be - it is a vital addition to the Token label’s already enviable catalogue of releases.

On the A-side, Kafim starts the exploration with “Kisin”. The trancey bass line that dictates the pace of this track, combined with a variety of distinctive sounds, make it sound almost otherworldly. As it defies the ideas of a vast structure, this trip almost seems to continue to an infinite space before it fades out.
