B2. Brother (Flying Machines EP vol.1)

House of Spirits is the church of sound over which Tom Noble presides, raising the congregation to ecstatic heights from his pulpit of passion.

Noble’s initial attempts at making music began like most collectors-cum-producers, lifting samples from worn records and repurposing the dusty beats into efficient edits. Instead of lumbering in these limitations, Noble opted for a greater challenge by inviting musicians to transform his sketches into a widely – and wildly – dynamic live performance. The resulting studio celebration led to the euphoric Holding On / Keep Holding On 12” for Beats In Space Records.

“Holding On” glides on such a joyous, eventful groove that it’s impossible to confine the track to a specific time or place. Strings, seemingly lifted from a 70s Salsoul twelve, soar alongside a gospel choir preaching positivity for souls both lost and found. Buoyed by a bass lick fat with funk’s sin and guitars glittering in solid gold, “Holding On” embraces disco house authentically and timelessly.

On the flip, Aaron Coyes of Peaking Lights tucks the heavenly wonder of the original under a dub-worn blanket for an out-of-body dream beam. The power of Noble’s composition retains full form against the free-flowing disembodiment of the performers, melting into one amorphous, hustling and bustling entity held together at the whim of Coyes at the controls.

Each 12″ from Beats in Space Records features original artwork in considerate and serial form. Tom Noble adorns Holding On with the fluorescent sigil of a late night romance. The 12″ packaging constructed by Will Work For Good features a removable vinyl BIS logo cling.

House of Spirits’ Holding On / Keep Holding On (Peaking Lights Dub) 12” will be released on May 20, 2014 on Beats In Space as a limited edition 12” and digitally.

When Sonar Kollektiv is presenting musical diggings you can be assured some real gems show up. And what a revelation is the Cosmic Disco by Venezuelan producer Daniel Grau! An elusive monographic showcase of his very productive creative period between 1978 and 1982 will be released as a double CD on the Berlin quality imprint later this year. 

Now, prior to the showcase compilation, a handful of selected remixes see the light of day – as a proof of how relevant Grau's music is still today. The opening of this firework is a real stunner on its own: One of the innovators of Nu Disco, Daniel Wang himself, is returning after a brief sabbatical! Together with also Berlin based Jules Etienne (one half of Egyptian Nipples) Danny “The Dancer” Wang takes two tracks of Daniel Grau's comprehensive back catalogue to task. “Robot Mágico” off the 1978 album “El Sonido Magico De Daniel Grau” does sound in its reinterpretation by the two disco aficionados as if it was recorded just yesterday. In the same smooth and sophisticated way comes the renovation of “Disco Fantasy” off the album of the same name from 1979. Still, the Non Disco Remix somehow reminds of Wang's groundbreaking releases on Environ and is funky and catchy to such an extend that DJs probably would love to play it three times in a row.

Well, the bar is set very high for the upcoming Daniel Grau remixes. But Sonar Kollektiv wouldn't be Sonar Kollektiv if you wouldn't already know exactly that there are more hot irons in the fire.

Palavas are two mysterious producers hailing from the South of France ready to position themselves as one of the hottest new Indie Dance duos on the scene. Their name, ​Palavas​, is a reference to Palavas-les-Flots (FR), a vacation town near their home that in the 1980’s owned the prestigious title of "Queen of Mediterranean Beaches.” In their music, Palavas aims to recapture this golden era, with sun drenched italo-disco elements, and summery beats.

The duo has already been busy making a mark on the scene. Their first eps were released on​ Intercept Records​ in addition to their own label, ​AZZUR, and have ​garnered DJ support by acts such as ​Hot Toddy, Gilles Peterson, Folamour, Ame, Laurent Garnier, Marcus Worgull, Grazzz, Crackazat​ and more.​ T​hey’ve also been busy DJing, with highlight performances at the​ "I Love Techno​" and "Big Bang Music Festivals" in Europe.

Meeting point and musical project from two passionate music lovers, diggers and djs: 
Patrick Gibin aka TwICE and NATIVE.

After years of dj residency @ the seminal ROOTS Corte Radisi club in their hometown Verona, the two decided to start a project on wax that represented their sound and diverse musical backgrounds.  

Edits, reworks and remixes of obscure and forgotten tracks, but also original works reaching across different genres and inspirations, the Flying Machines releases are strictly on vinyl for the likes of serious diggers and music heads.

Out on Patrick Gibin aka TwICE’s Blend it! record label, the first FIying Machines release in 2014 was a limited edition picture vinyl: a 4 track EP that goes from obscure B-side reggae to forgotten soul and slow-tempo electronic tunes.

The second EP was released in july 2015 and quickly sold out; supported and played by djs like Volcov, Antal, Hunee, Lee Collins, Dj Deep amongst others, it’s now highly in demand and sought after.

The third EP dropped beginning of September 2016: a deep journey through obscure electronica, spacey jazz, rough leftfield disco and rare groove, that has already gained massive support from Lakuti and Tama Sumo (to name a few), who also featured 2 tracks of the EP in her XLR8R podcast.

Each dj set they put together is a unique musical wave, pure energy and emotion.
