L’opera si ispira al Mandala, disegno geometrico a simmetria centrale, composto da cerchi quadrati e altre figure geometriche dal significato spirituale ricco di simbologie.
In particolare mi ispiro a un arazzo, a un telo che possiedo dal 2006 e che mi sono portato dietro nei miei numerosi viaggi e traslochi in Italia e all’estero nell’arco degli ultimi 10 anni.
L’idea di questa opera è di rappresentare il concetto di continuità, ovvero del perseguire in modo più o meno cosciente, di un obiettivo continuo, di una direzione nel nome della quale compio scelte, e che mi spinge in contesti e luoghi diversi. Questo arco continuo nella mia vita è la musica: praticata in diverse modalità e con mezzi diversi, essa accompagna la mia esistenza e ne costituisce una importante ragione.
Mi piace pensare che qualcosa rimanga sempre nel nostro presente, forza cosmica e materna, attraverso i mutamenti e gli sconvolgimenti che attraversano l’esistenza. L’idea di continuità temporale non è una novità nel pensiero occidentale: si pensi a Bergson e alla sua idea di flusso, in cui la la linea del tempo si fonde in un continuum fatto di istanti presenti. Il passato è una proiezione nel presente che avviene ad opera della nostra coscienza. Questo non sembra essere in disaccordo con le neuroscienze, che vedono la coscienza e i ricordi come il frutto di un complesso e individuale intreccio sinaptico di linguaggio e collegamenti multi- sensoriali legati alle esperienze percettive.
Ho tratto quindi dalla mia personale esperienza dei materiali sonori legati al mio “passato” (suoni di chitarra, field recording di città in cui ho vissuto e cui sono particolarmente legato) e li ho collegati a oggetti sonori che si legano al mio presente (suoni sintetici e tecniche tipiche della musica elettroacustica).
Pur ispirandomi a elementi personali del mio passato, ho fatto in modo che questa composizione non sia una narrazione di esso ne una revisione romantica o nostalgica: ho lasciato che i tratti biografici personali si delineassero nella continuità dell’intreccio, diventandone parte integrante ma restando pur sempre sullo sfondo.
Per la struttura formale della composizione mi sono ispirato alla suddivisione geometrica del mandala che possiedo, cercando di tradurne in chiave narrativa le funzioni simboliche e creando in questo modo un intreccio che ne segue allo stesso tempo la creazione e la lettura.
