Sequentia is a musician and promoter based in Tāmaki Makaurau, drawing influence from the bass-heavy culture of their Ōtautahi roots and their earlier experimental / improvisational projects. They host a monthly radio show on @95bfm called ‘Soundbleed’, and in 2020 they founded @relatedarticles - which functions as a monthly broadcast, a record label and a club night. In 2019 they co-established the biennial 3-day experimental music event 'Outlier Festival'.

this week we’ve invited self-professed bass enjoyer Emilia Grima, DJ and lover of all things broken (beats, concepts, etc). born in Gijón, she now resides in Madrid, where she continues to tear up the scene with her entrancing sets. 

this mix is an offering of genres and styles that define Emilia’s current tastes and digging habits, moving between more junglist elements to more dubby ones and making for a mental concoction of bass and psychedelic sounds. with odes to loved artists Bukkha and Homelander, she tells us that “being able to share music from artists who give you feedback themselves is a true honour”.

Vancouver’s @destratavan debuts on Scuffed Recordings with three warping, club-ready tracks.

In his short career so far, Destrata has worked with a who’s who of essential underground labels, making his debut in 2021 on Martyn’s seminal 3024 with the hybrid drum workout ‘Bait & Switch’.

His release schedule since then speaks for itself, appearing on a slew of bubbling club labels including SPE:C, Of Paradise, Intercept, eatmybeat and Club Designs.

Now making his first appearance on London’s Scuffed Recordings, Destrata offers up three new tracks on the Mutationist EP.

Opening with the title track, Destrata lays out a statement of intent with chopped vocals, lurching bass and tension-building synths. Up next is Clubmoss, a pumping techno-influenced roller that nonetheless maintains the skippiness and percussive slant that runs throughout the EP.

Closing the release is Desire Signal, which sees Destrata dial back the pace for a writhing techno-dancehall hybrid.

Basilica is back to finish summer 2023 off with a huge selection of carefully curated artists with the goal of bringing forth our favourite signature sounds of UK style Techno, Electro, Bass and more.

Basilica Blueprints Vol.2 carries on from our debut release compilation to bring a barrage of club functional and experimental pieces all wrapped under the banner of the Basilica ethos - trying to expand on the nuance and experimentation side of functional dance music fit for the club.

Balancing with drum heavy, rolling pieces combined with choppy and staggering beats, all designed to crush through a dancefloor, BBV2 has already cemented itself on the festivals and dancefloors of 2023, playing through Dekmantel, Blitz Club and many other iconic names, and the list is sure to grow.
