2014 led Blue Hawaii around the world. Over multiple visits to Russia, China/SE Asia, Mexico, Japan, Europe and the US, it felt like everything was coming up opposite Untogether, the album we made. Instead of being secluded in a Montreal apartment writing a fragmented break-up record, we were travelling vast distances, rediscovering each other as close friends and tying together radically different cultures. Our music came to reflect that. Live, everything sounded more together and higher energy than the record in an effort to find common ground with all those different audiences. 

It's the end of the year, so to commemorate the global underground touring we did— to all the people who were interested in coming to and putting on a Blue Hawaii show in Bangkok or Vilnius— we decided to put together a free mixtape of edits —  somewhere between the dreamy record and the banging live show. 

In 2015, Ra will focus on her other band, BRAIDS, who have just completed a beautiful, deeply emotional, new record which I am very excited to see come into the world. I will use what I’ve learnt this year DJing and roaming the earth to produce more music this winter —  planning on releasing material in a similar vein to this mixtape and hitting SXSW this March as DJ Blue Hawaii.. holding down the fort until Ra and I can record another album…   something 4 y’all to look forward to! ---;)  Agor (the boy in Blue Hawaii)

Under the Botany moniker, Spencer Stephenson creates rich psychological and emotional experiences through audio. When he started creating his own music at age 15, he was enamored with Four Tet, Stars of the Lid, Madlib, and Dilla. In his late teens, he went through a heavy period of discovery with Psychedelic rock, Krautrock, and Brit-folk. "I started imitating a lot of those forms in my own music, sampling them sometimes, recording from scratch sometimes, but really just trying to bridge a gap between those worlds and sample-based hip hop, and I’m still trying."

On his latest effort Dimming Awe, the Light is Raw, the 27-year-old producer and composer continues dissolving the borders between his disparate-yet-beloved psych, hip hop, and ambient influences. Unlike his debut LP Lava Diviner, which peaked and valley-ed through a narrative arc, Dimming Awe focuses on the artist's ever-unfolding, present state of mind. As a former jazz student, spiritual/free jazz philosophy regarding what he calls “emergent” music has increasingly become a guiding light when he creates. "The more emergent I let my music be when I'm making it, the more I like the result, it feels like a truer reflection. I feel like I am getting closer to doing that with computer-made music," he says. "This album is a document of what I do, not a statement in any explicit way. I feel like I'm moving closer to a jazz underpinning that I've always felt, philosophically more than aesthetically…making music feels more like exhaling as I grow older.”

"Monday Give Me Monday" showcases Art Feynman's signature grooves, krautrock slink, and staccato bounce, all captured on his trusty four-track cassette recorder.

Earlier this summer, Art Feynman released his debut full-length album Blast Off Through the Wicker and toured the US with Stereolab's Laetitia Sadier. Pitchfork describes him as "a cool purveyor of coked-out dub-kraut." Consequence of Sound calls his debut a "funky, psychedelic slice of afro-pop" and Tiny Mix Tapes regards it as an "analog masterpiece."

In 2018 Art Feynman will return with his sophomore LP that takes us even further into his motorik and afrobeat inspired world of sound.

International psych explorers Flamingods are back with brand new album ‘Levitation’ (3 May, Moshi Moshi Records) and have announced a run of dates including their biggest headline show to date at London’s Village Underground on 1 May.

The first single to be unveiled is ‘Marigold’, a multi-sensory psych-rock trip that finds  Flamingods on hair-raising form even by their own exuberant standards. ‘Marigold’ oozes fun out of every pore, a perfect antidote to turbulent times.

‘Levitation’ is inspired largely by the disco, funk and psychedelic sounds coming out of the Middle East and South Asia in the 70s, the album channels these influences through a vision soaked in mysticism, positivity and sun-drenched imagery.

‘Levitation’ is the follow-up to Flamingods’ breakthrough 2016 album ‘Majesty’ 
The band will be taking their incendiary live show to venues around the UK in April and May in support of the record, as well as a one-off-date supporting Omar Souleyman in Bristol January 31st.
