There’s few people who currently embody the confluence of modern music like Channel Tres does. On the one hand, the soulful heart of dance music lives at the centre of his music, taking us through from deep Chicago house to dub techno effortlessly. At the same time,  his West Coast synths and lyrical nods to mainstream R&B and rap remind us of the limitless possibilities of artists that grew up listening to music laterally, timelessly and free from the confines of genre. In a 2014 interview with Truants, Kerri Chandler expressed his love for the ongoing house revival but felt like newcomers were missing out on an opportunity by not incorporating vocals, singing and live performances into their craft. Perhaps this is exactly where Channel manages to push the envelope in a new way that has enticed us all, with his commanding vocals narrating perspectives that we're not necessarily used to hearing on a 4/4 beat, and live shows that incorporate dance and carefree performance, asking the audience to submit to freedom in a way that the average DJ set doesn't.

With only two EPs and ten tracks in total released under the moniker, his polished output and its magnitude have led him to open up for an impressive array of artists and their respective audiences, from Robyn to Tyler, the Creator. There's a traction surrounding Channel Tres that predicts a vast future for the Compton native. For Truancy Volume 257, Channel takes us through a journey of gratitude starting off with Curtis Mayfield, taking us through the likes of Osunlade and Todd Terje to Ebo Taylor, Tupac as well as his own remix for Tyler. We caught up with Channel on his current journey as an artist, creative processes and his performances.

Paying tribute to the many coin operated video games played in my youth, "Insert Coin" is an ode to my favorite levels of my favourite games. From the "why aren't you at school" feeling of old arcades to the "my thumbs ache" nature of Playstation, there's nothing better than getting lost in your favorite video game.

The Message
"Tinted window memories of cotton colored melodies. The sugar rush, the smell of trees, just you and me. The lights all shine so bright…" - A mysterious tale of one night in the magical city of Amsterdam. 

Night Bus
My soundtrack to life in London. When the last tube has gone there's only one way to get home - on the Night bus. So many interesting characters and so many stories to be told.

Life
Another tune inspired by life in London. Such a beautiful and ugly city at the same time where anything can happen at any time. There are thousands of people all there to chase their dreams, make a better life for themselves and sometimes just survive. "It's the gravity of the situation, it's pulling you in… It's got you stuck in its sites and you can't get out…"

Morning Bird
Written when I first moved to London, living in a noisy flat next to the train and tube lines in a row of houses that all looked the same. Although there was so much London had to offer I missed the simple things, like the sound of the Tui that used to sing outside my bedroom window back in NZ. But all that didn't matter.. "coz' I've got you by my side…".

Made in Taiwan and brought to Vienna, Austria (her parents’ origin) the culture clash incepted an affinity for a wide range of music. Growing up listening to classical music and African jazz, Billie Holiday‘s sadness and beloved fusion jazz gave birth to her musical approach, while abstract hip hop damaged the rest. Her sound varies from jazzy improvisation to Nu Soul, creating her own unique style through her code-lacking manners. She has spent a lot of time traveling Asia, the States and Southern Africa. While working on her Master thesis in Biotechnology she met the producer Mez.

Mez is currently studying piano at the Vienna Jazz Conservatory and is also collaborating with artists such as Raashan Ahmad. The quality obsessed artist of Jewish descent surprises with distinguished harmonies, organic vibrant beats and innovative sound sources.

Soulful things lay ahead after their first collaboration "Obtaining". Listen for yourself. Together they have been working on "Mood Swings“ as well as other material. This project will reflect on Soia's own mood swings, from melancholic soul, stream of consciousness turned song, to feel good tunes - always going beyond the surface.
