With a nod to 1970s jazz funk greats the inspirational and humanitarian musings of the enigmatic Bruce Lee are backed by breakbeats, bass, guitar, shakers, 3 piece horn section and a haunting vibraphone melody. All recorded using real live instruments and in order to preserve a natural groove no click track was used during the recording.

On May 22, 2014 Dave Rowntree of Blur made it his record of the week on XFM calling it "so interesting, so original." Both Don Letts and Gideon Coe have been spinning it on BBC 6 Music along with WFUV's Kara Manning in New York and numerous local stations across the UK.

Be Water My Friend will be issued on new Leeds imprint All My Friends as a split 7” with label mates Invisible Hands &amp; their debut single Just.

Having included this track among his favourites of 2016 on the last day of the year Huey Morgan also provided the UK national radio debut on BBC 6 Music followed by a hat trick of spins from Gideon Coe. Kara Manning broadcasted the US radio premiere courtesy of WFUV, New York.

Something Gives is a timely vehicle for the keen eloquence of James Baldwin whose voice, along with that of the wonderful Alice Walker, is the basis of the track.

We've been feeling urgently compelled to respond somehow to the heavy sociopolitical escalations of late on both sides of the pond. This release is our way of bridging the distances & expressing universal solidarity as human beings. Musically the tune bears similarities to A Tribe Called Quest's jazzy hip hop vibes and Arthur Verocai's Brazilian way of joy and despair all at once.

At last! This one took literally years to piece together. Does Dennis Bovell need an introduction? I think not but in case you don’t know, he is a musical polymath, top flight producer, dub legend and one of the finest artists the UK has ever produced.

Optimo Music has worked with Dennis before when he went into Green Door studios and dubbed out Golden Teacher to the max. This Disco Plate EP was already in the works before then but various circumstances caused it to take until now to see the light of day.

In 1981 Dennis released his solo album, “Brain Damage”. A double album that fused afro beat, funk, dub, jazz, blues and styles that have still to be genre-fied, it went over most people’s heads and is now a mainly forgotten masterpiece.

From that album we present on the A side, the magnificent “Heaven”, a disco dub afro-sound dance floor bomb that somehow manages to sound more current today than it did 35 years ago. Also included is a slightly edited version that removes some of the vocals to focus on the groove a little more.

On the AA side is the legendary “Escape Goat Dub”. Back in 1981, Dennis Bovell was perhaps thee hot producer of the day. Epic Records put Dennis in the studio with singer songwriter Garland Jeffreys to work on his new album. It turned out Mr. Jeffreys was a big dub fan so most of the studio time was spent doing wild dub tracks instead of the singer song writer type tracks the label was anticipating. The wildest of those was “Escape Goat Dub” which must be up there in the greatest dubs ever to shake the world. The label was patently at a loss as to what to do with it so stuck it out as a promo only 12” in France, and there it lay forgotten. After a long search Twitch picked up a copy in Rennes a few years back and got permission from Mr. Bovell and Mr. Jeffreys to put it out again. It’s not an expensive record or a mega rare record, just little known and definitely deserving to be heard by new ears. Epic dub abounds.

The AA2 is “Smouche”, another track from “Brain Damage”; 3 minutes of dub, funk inflected Moogy summery joy.

In Parenthesis is an epic poem of World War I (or First World War) by David Jones first published in England in 1937. Although Jones had been known solely as an engraver and painter prior to its publication, the poem won the Hawthornden Prize and the admiration of writers such as W.B. Yeats and T. S. Eliot. Based on Jones's own experience as an infantryman, In Parenthesis narrates the experiences of English Private John Ball in a mixed English-Welsh regiment starting with embarcation from England and ending seven months later with the assault on Mametz Wood during the Battle of the Somme. The work employs a mixture of lyrical verse and prose, is highly allusive, and ranges in tone from formal to Cockney colloquial and military slang.

By incorporating a wide range of voices including MCs, poets, historical speakers and singers into their music, Fold aim to amplify humanitarian perspectives and critical reflections on today’s world. Through doing so they also hope to help keep spaces open for speaking freely and truthfully. Their sound is similarly wide-ranging, from jazz-funk through Brazilian, psyche, hip-hop and downtempo.

Starting in 2012 they’ve managed to cultivate a decent reputation in the underground British music scene. Their music is played on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, Radio X, Amazing Radio and stations across the world. Indie Shuffle are big fans and they’ve had features in The Times, The Guardian and The NME. They’ve played shows all over the UK including a live session for Lauren Laverne on BBC 6 Music.

Fold believe that the answers to a sustainable future lie in prioritising the value of life over profits in all decisions. They believe that the success of our species has not been driven by ‘survival of the fittest’ but instead by ‘survival of the most cooperative.’ Our ability to act cooperatively to our mutual benefit, facilitated by our loving natures, is the true foundation of society. These beliefs, are what they bring to every record and every performance.
