Folding Spaces is a new label curated by Digital Tunes, that will focus on 'various artists' EPs as a way of gathering vital, under-the-radar artists from around the globe, operating within the raw, roots-inspired end of Techno, and side them with more established electronic music nonconformists. The store's editorial arm extends from their continuous search for exciting new music, and aims at offering an outlet (and context) to the work of these fledging artists.

Marco Rodrigues, of Photonz and One Eyed Jacks fame, will be handling all A&R, while Shcuro and dymp - designers of choice from Tokyo O' clock - create all the artwork and visual identity for the label.

The first release mirrors their global, join-the-dots ethic perfectly; Folding Spaces I is a collection of inspired and raw drum-machine gems that connect France's most devoted Drexciya student, Black Tide, UTTU and One Eyed Jacks' own Photonz, the synth-wizard and DJ extraordinaire from the south of Portugal, Lost In Space, of Roundhouse Kick fame, and California's own excelling hardware improviser, Worker/Parasite. All this, topped with remixes by a legendary craftsman of dancefloor oblivion: NYC-based, South African native Brendon Moeller AKA The Echologist.

On Folding Spaces II we continue our opus of deeply entangled Techno non-locality by following a musical thread between Portugal, Italy, Switzerland, Leeds, California and London. 

From Portugal we've got Faro's own Vasco Fortes, a free-spirited producer and key DJ from the south of Portugal, and also Shcuro AKA João Ervedosa, arguably Lisbon's strongest new proponent of darker, trippier Techno, stepping up from his usual role in the label as visual artist to deliver the ecstatic 'Yama'. 

Hailing from Genève, Switzerland, we have 4-5 A-PM, steering things into faster, deeper and unconventional territories with 'Radiant' - handpicked by our remixer of choice for Folding Spaces II, London's own Killawatt - of Osiris Music fame - for a triply, Bergain-style Techno rework. 

From Italy, Punknown's been already crafting his hardware-saavy, classicist House tracks for a few good years now on labels such as his own Costreet, but on 'Shut Up' he twists the saturation knobs just enough to turn his usual approach into something different and generate even more compulsive and magnetic results.

Oakland's Worker/Parasite - check his track "Swells" on our 1st release Folding Spaces I - and the extraordinary improv Techno duo from Leeds, Chrononautz, take things to a whole other level with their collaboration 'Proto Toms'; a generous slab of stark breakbeat Acid Techno that sounds at the same time skeletal and exuberant, like a hybrid between the finest Kruton moments on Dissident and AFX's classic remix for 808 State's Flow Coma.

Joining the dots between Norwich UK, Paris, Oporto, Portimão, Lisbon and The Hague, the 3rd release on Photonz and Digital Tunes' joint-venture label Folding Spaces keeps its focus on raw, uncompromised dance music, offering six tracks of organic, often improvised Techno and Detroit-style Electro.

Starting with Lisbon's PeteBlas, a disciple both of Detroit House warmth and Berlin's austere Dub Techno, he offers us one of his first experiments in using analogue equipment, 'Oscillators', building up from a stripped down machine funk pattern to reach ecstatic, almost psychedelic bursts of sound, carrying a palpably spontaneous sense of experimentation and improvisation in a dancefloor context.

Hardware-obsessed couple hailing from the south of Portugal, Roundhouse Kick, take things fully into acidic territory with their track "EPM12"; a lush and spacious late-night tripper, enveloping over a 303 line that plays in hypnotic time signatures while warm and meditative pads float over raw, driving percussion patterns.

Having been solely a DJ for 6 or 7 years, it was only recently that Osti M put his hand into production, prolifically crafting raw, improvised machine jams with soul and a rough, spontaneous approach that seems invested in what's important: capturing the energy of the moment when inspiration hits. Workout is exactly this, a moment bigger than the sum of it's parts, sparse but alive and flowing.

Mharia is the semi-secret alias of one of last year's most celebrated new artists operating within the fertile field of experimental Techno - an easy guess if we mention labels such as Ramp's Fourth Wave or Opal Tapes. He's usually known for his atmospheric and melancholic romanticizations of the early days of Rave culture, but here instead he takes things to stark, Dreciyan Electro territory in great style.

Voiron's music sits somewhere near early Warp releases and the stark, experimental machine funk released by Aphex Twin's Rephlex imprint. His trademark sound is both basic - production is raw, with fairly untreated hardware synths and drum-machines - and musically complex, with baroque melody lines and dextrous compositional details. His track "Itinéris" is a great example of this ethereal and atmospheric type of electronic funk.

For the remix we've got a true legend from The Hague, Danny Wolfers AKA Legowelt; a man of unending aliases and projects, with a knack for compositions that trigger the imagination to wander around in the same mystical and occult imagery that he proclaims  to move him. He's been a huge inspiration to most of Folding Spaces roster and curators for many years, with a hugely influential body of work on key labels such as Creme Organization, Bunker or Clone, and is a huge honor to have him on board for our 3rd release.
