Montgomery Gurns is a DJ and 1/3 of London-based queer collective Technomate. Myles (AKA Montgomery Gurns) enjoys playing genres such as hard techno, industrial and acid techno with some rave and trance thrown in for good measure.

They fell in love with the techno scene in London at their first party a few years after moving and have been listening to and exploring more genres ever since. They decided to take up DJing as a hobby, found they greatly enjoyed it, and are now looking forward to where it could lead.

The universe of Ket Robinson can be defined by strong percussions, rhythmic drums, dynamic melodies and captivating synthesizers. Influenced by industrial sounds and UK Drum & Bass, he has created abyssal and mechanical productions that he expresses through a strong impulsive Techno which resonates in the depths of souls. 

You can feel it in its numerous releases, his own label and his DJ sets which are of great intensity.
The Parisian producer has already been noticed by big names like Shlømo, Dax J, Richie Hawtin, Remco Beekwilder, Anetha, Dense & Pika, Maceo Plex and Hadone, who play his bomb tracks during their shows around the world.

Ket Robinson already performed many events around the world: Pulse Techno, Insane by Techno and Dripping Techno in Buenos Aires (ARG), Gate in Montréal (CAN), The Mansion in Shanghai (CHI), Caussemique Festival in the south of France, Magazine Club in Lille, Made Festival and 1988 Club in Rennes, NF-34 in Paris and many others…

We are happy to have Bittercaress from Montreal for our IOD podcast series. Her sharp selection reveals a marked taste for heavy bass and uncompromising beats. Her style is best  described as ravy and highly energetic as she draws her inspiration from old school techno, mixing ravy and  trancy atmospheres with raw and industrial energies. The artist gets highly creative behind the decks with her openness to other genres and her appetite for risks when comes the time to play unexpected guilty pleasures. BitterCaress definitely knows how to make people dance and will slay any dancefloors. 
Since the end of 2020, she is now managing her brand-new solo project called MFC Records. A label established as a way to support newcomers, fresh talents and already established artists from all over the world who would like to support a cause. All proceeds from the releases are going to carefully chosen non-for-profit organizations.

IOD PODCAST #049 // BITTERCARESS

M@GS is a name rapidly on the rise, with international gigs already chalked off in the relatively short time she has been playing. After spending 20 years on dancefloors across Poland and the UK, in 2021 she decided to try her luck on the other side of the decks. 

In the past few months, her dark and emotional, industrial techno sets have already been heard in London parties such as Mass and Hidden Senses, to much acclaim. In October we invited her to play UNFOLD where she brought her gritty style to an explosive set, leaving us excited to follow her blossoming music career. She then followed this up in November with her first international gig, flying to Berlin to play at our friends Ismus for their huge 6th Year Anniversary celebrations.

How did you fall in love with electronic music? 
Growing up in Belgium was pretty boring, but Belgians have a strong appreciation for electronic and forward-thinking music. From the age of 14 I started going out in search of some thrills, and there my lifelong crush on hard dance music began, via le Gabber and Drum & Bass. 
 
How has the techno scene changed since you first became a part of it?
 All I can remember pre-2014 is being groped and shoved around on dancefloors at anonymous warehouse parties with a minimal-ish techno soundtrack. It was always a traumatic experience in one way or another. It couldn’t be more in contrast to the events which are now (or were, pre-COVID 19) on every weekend. The music is heavier, the people are much more diverse, and mostly free from the predators, so overall it’s a lot more fun.
 
Tell us about your party HTBX London. 
It started with, and is still dedicated to, a closely tied community of like-minded people, who have a very fussy but voracious taste for techno. The party is an excuse for us to congregate once a month, dance until we drop, (wearing very few clothes) and catch up amongst old friends as well as new connections.  
What projects are you focusing on in 2020? I’m trying not to make plans that could be impeded by the unfolding apocalypse. I plan to finish some tracks I’ve been working on and would love to release ASAP. If this situation doesn’t subside soon, I'll explore some new side hustles. 

What is so special about FOLD?
It’s a bada$$ nightclub with incredible sound, visuals, atmosphere, all of my favourite artists have already played there at least once in its short existence, but it’s the exceptional team behind it that makes FOLD irreplicable. I couldn’t have more admiration for what they do, and the way they do it. Their strong values have shaped it into the first club where many people feel comfortable for the first time in for years, if ever. The crowd is enthusiastic but respectful, the line-ups are exquisite and refreshingly inclusive.  

What has been your favourite set at FOLD and why? 
My favourite sets to play and dance to have almost all been at the glorious UNFOLDs on a Sunday afternoon. 

Last November, two topless guys in balaclavas (later identified as Mercury 200) played their Britney Spears remix and the crowd was possessed! One to remember for sure. Last but not least, Voicedrone B2B James Newmarch closing sets always deliver. I miss those.

 
Once the pandemic is over, what is the track you’re most looking forward to playing at the first party back? 
‘Kropp uten Grenser’ (‘Body without Borders’) remixed by DJ Ibon will be played until everyone is sick of it, I snuck it into my mix for today too, around minute 14.
