Chaos In The CBD - June 2022

I invited to Artwork to come play some records on my show on Soho Radio New York tonight to pay homage to a weird phenomenon from three decades ago. Record stores in Croydon in the early-mid 1990’s. Croydon, a slightly less impressive cosmopolitan metropolis than the one we are DJing in now (in truth it was a dreary suburban shithole) bizarrely had some world class record shops. Certainly, a match for Black Market in Soho (sorry Goldie). I brought much of my early US House & Garage from Swag Records (with my pocket money), almost all of which have stood the test of time. Artwork worked in Big Apple Records also in Croydon at the very same time. It’s funny to be broadcasting those Croydon RIPS from Manhattan exactly 30 years later with Arthur (who I thought was scary and unapproachable at the time). It’s a funny old game!

Discogs: DJ Genesis began her career spinning at local nightclubs at the age of 19. Since then she has been showcased at festivals and clubs throughout the US. and Canada. In 1999 she founded the "Set It Off" tour that featured female dj's from Chicago, NY, and Houston. "The Set It Off tour was an outlet for female dj's who had been in the scene for awhile but never received the props they deserved." Co-headliners Heather Heart and DJ Heather collaborated in the historical tour billed as the "First ever female dj tour to hit the US." This tour was sponsored by XLR8R magazine and received attention nationwide with write-ups in LV City Life Newspapers, and others. She is also one of the many dj's to be featured at the second annual Detroit Electronic Music Festival (DEMF).

As a producer DJ Genesis is well known for recording on the downtempo D.C. imprint Eighteenth Street Lounge Records. The now out of print release called "agents Adrift" sold out in stores worldwide. Her track Bipolar which was featured on the Unknown Artist EP, received write ups in XLR8R magazine. IN 2000 she remixed Commons "Funky 4 U" which created a buzz at the Miami music conference and the Detroit Electronic Music Festival.

Rob Glassett, better known as Fold and owner of FLDIN2 is a London based music producer influenced by his teenage immersion in the pirate radio, raving and record collecting culture he was immersed in during the late 90's and early 2000’s. Rob is a seasoned music head, obsessive record collector and resident at London's NTS Radio since 2014. 
Co running East London's forward leaning Well Street Records imprint he has released his own music on labels such as Aus Music, Electric Minds, Shall Not Fade and ManMakeMusic maintaining his position as a key player in the underground of UK nightlife for over a decade. Aside from being a talented producer Rob is a prolific DJ, having played at venues large and small across the globe.
