Hailing from Kristiansund on the northwest coast of Norway, Helge Tømmervåg has been crafting electronic sounds since the early '80s. His earliest work recorded under the now-familiar Mind over MIDI moniker arrived in the early '90s. He's released scores of highly regarded and stylistically uncompromising sounds over the years, appearing on labels including Silent Seasons, Diametric, Hibernate, Whitelabrecs, ROHS! Lontano Series, Shimmering Moods Records, Slow Tones Collages and via his own Berserk Fabrik.

Simon “Woolfy” James is the first guest on SOULMEEX PRO and we'll never be able to thank him enough for it because he's a terrific musician, DJ, and live performer with an 18+ year career.

Living in Ojai, California, but originally from the UK he’s released multiple albums and EPs on labels like DFA Records, Permanent Vacation, Future Classic, or his own Ritual Release Recordings, both solo and with his music partner D-Hastie under the moniker Projections.

His tracks have been remixed by widely acclaimed artists such as Benjamin Fröhlich, Markus Worgull, Eagles & Butterflies, Jacques Renault, Musumeci, El_Txef_A, and Francis Inferno Orchestra among others.

Last, but not least, he’s published DJ sets for the likes of Vice Magazine, Ramson Note, and Dream Chimney.

His debut on SOULMEEX PRO is a luminous manifesto of Balearic, disco and deep music to celebrate that summer is already here in the northern hemisphere.

@bvoice and the story of his life in the 22nd episode of the show. Eclectic journey through the jungles of the electronic music in his collection that is being gathered since 1996.

Electronic music was his passion since late 80-s when his favorite artists were Brian Eno, Harold Bud, Can, Joy Division, Einstürzende Neubauten et cetera. Bvoice began experimenting with decks in 1996 when the very young Russian techno-scene was still mostly underground. The first gigs and recognition came while he was dj-ing in some of the first places where you could listen to electronic music in Russia. 

As Bvoice dj skills matured he took the other step in developing his musical talents. So, in 2002 he founded project called Midiots (Dumb Unit, Treibstoff Rec). Native Instruments “Traktor 2” took their track for the demo skills of the program. In 2005 together with Egor “Khz”, Bvoice started the project Bvoice & Khz (Time Has Changed, Dumb Unit, Airdrop etc). Style of their music has a very broad spectrum from contemporary deep-house to basement dub-techno.

Later the project Bvoice & Anrilov has started (also with Alex Danilov like B.A.D project). The support of their first EP was pretty huge: Loco Dice, Mandy, Marc Antona and many more. Then the collaboration time has come. Pier Bucci, dOP, Masomenos, Hatikvah etc. Also Bvoice & Anrilov are part of Arma & Foxtrax labels.

Bahraini experimental musician Sarah Haras is releasing her latest album, Mirage, on Chinabot. Mirage explores traditional Khaleeji folk music, adding her own unique blend of warped drums, granular drone, noise, post-industrial and musique concrète.

Haras builds rough textures and skittering rhythms to articulate an ethereal sense of both wonder and dread. Her unique perspective as an Arab woman embodies her work with a unique sensibility and cultural touchstones, while remaining raw and avant garde in its outlook. 

She pays homage to Khaleeji folk music on the tracks Sahra and Mutated Samri, the former of which is driven by a hypnotic rhythm which gradually crests with intensity. Khaleeji folk music, which originates in central and eastern Arabia but is also influenced by African migration, centres on chanting and drumming and is found at celebrations across Bahrain.

Haras is also influenced by Bahraini nature, with tracks like Mta Bnroo7 and Euphoria recalling the punishing rush of hot air across a flat landscape. With Wish That I, the influence of club and dancehall music is expressed through the glitchy rhythm and melody. Mirage sees Haras refine her perspective to a still sharper point, giving us a visceral and deeply textured exploration of the point where tradition meets modernity.

Sarah Haras is an experimental music producer based in Bahrain. She aims to represent Arab women’s experience through music. Taking inspiration from Bahraini landscape and culture, she has captured the essence of the modern-day Bahraini experience into a tangible yet abstract form. Mirage is Sarah Haras' third album, and her first on Chinabot. She is also a resident DJ at Ma3azef.
