*MC* It's Narathip! The Amsterdam-based DJ comes through with a heavy low-end mix that captures the essence of experiencing a soundsystem for the first time again. 

A cultural curator who does it all, Narathip runs the booking agency and music platform Rhythmic Culture, hosts a regular radio show on Echobox as well as works in-house at local juggernaut Dekmantel. Late last year, Narathip celebrated 7 years of Rhythmic Culture which initially started as a Soundcloud channel and has now expanded into a booking agency - with the likes of AliA, Lieke TR, Lolo Batten, Low End Activist, ojoo, Photonz and more on their roster - and last year saw the launch of their record label with a release from Zohar & Mika Oki followed by Keita Sano. To celebrate their 7th birthday, Rhythmic Culture took over Skatecafe for an all killer, no filler event with Identified Patient, Askmelater, Lieke TR, Madba, Max Abysmal, Photonz and Thrills in +41. 

In the below interview, we get to know Narathip a little more as we chat through his musical history, relationship with creativity, inspirations and approach to his craft. Plus he takes us on a deep dive into the bass bin with podcast 179.

Whats your name and where are you from?

I’m Hannah! I DJ & produce as Hannah Account & I’m based in Queens.

Can you tell me a little about the mix?

This mix is loosely based on a set I played last week at The End. I had planned to play dub reggae tracks one at a time echoed out between tracks. When I got to the gig I learned that the mixer for the evening (a Xone 92, which I had never played on) lacked effects. Not having the time to run home & grab a delay pedal, I instead decided to play dance tracks that draw on dub’s heavy bass & drums & eerie atmosphere. Even though I had to figure out the mixer while performing I was still pretty pleased with my track selection & went home wanting to keep exploring this theme. Like dub, this mix makes me think about ghosts & the weight of the present.

What are you most excited about that you’re working on right now?

I think getting to play a whole bunch of my own tracks out at Bossa a couple weeks ago made me catch the producing bug again.  I’m trying to put out a lot more music this year! I’m mostly trying to finish some of the dozens of tracks I have that are somewhere between 25-90% complete before I really dive into new stuff though. I feel like I make tracks in one long session or very slowly over the course of many months with not a whole lot of in-between. 

Any hobbies outside of music?

I love cooking! Like DJing it’s all about combination timing & selection :)

I’m throwing myself a birthday party on Saturday April 13th at Jade Bar! I’ll be doing the closing set for that I’m also performing the night after on April 14th at The End in The Breaking Capacity breakbeat/jungle/dnb party. If you know me you know those genres are my bread & butter :) No pressure to come see me two nights in a row but I’ll also love you forever if you do!!
