Following the Thread: Episode 01

The second episode of the 'Following the Thread' podcast has something for everyone. COVER editor Lucy Upward kicks things off by guiding us through her recent trip to Doha, delving into the 'Weaving Poems' installation by Maryam Omar at Design Doha, who she interviewed for this episode. Lucy then picks up on one of the defining themes of the upcoming issue of COVER, which is 'Women in Rug Design'. She speaks to Bonnie Sutton of Knots Rugs, Nicole Samad of Samad Rugs and Dorothy Bourne of Christopher Farr about how women have only recently started to be taken seriously in an industry historically dominated by men. The HALI section of this episode features editor Ben Evans interviewing Sheila Fruman, author of 'Pull of the Thread' which is published by Hali Publications. The book has proved immensely popular, and the pair discuss why readers are so enraptured by the untold stories of textile travellers that capture the freedom of the post-World War II era. HALI's Rachel Meek concludes the episode by previewing the upcoming 'Decorative Arts of Iberia' HALI tour with tour leader Gijs van Hensbergen.

Following the Thread: Episode 02

The third episode of the ‘Following the Thread’ podcast begins with a focus on interior design. COVER Editor Lucy Upward, speaks to three rug designers (Jennifer Manners, Kate Temple and Laylah Holmes) about the trends they are noticing in rug design at the moment and how these speak to wider trends in interior design. Lucy then delves into what COVER readers can expect from the next issue, COVER 75. 
The HALI section features editor Ben Evans discussing the new issue of HALI, which is available online from this week. Ben discusses articles of note, many of which relate to the underlying theme of the issue: the carpet and textile heritage of Turkey. Continuing this theme, the final section is an interview with Serra Oruc of the International Conference on Oriental Carpets. Oruc provides a preview for the 15th edition of the conference which is taking place in June. This episode features an exclusive offer for our listeners so it is not to be missed!

Following the Thread: Episode 03

As we count down the days to COVER Connect New York, our fourth episode of 'Following the Thread' celebrates the upcoming boutique trade show and what it represents for the rug industry. This episode opens with a conversation between CCNY project manager, Rachel Meek and returning visitor Taline Isberian of Isberian Rug Company. Taline explains what she's looking for at the show, as well as sharing which brands, familiar and unfamiliar to her, she is excited to see. This is followed by a conversation between Ryan Higgins and Ned Baker of COVER Connect exhibitor Tamarian. The pair discuss past editions of what they describe as 'the best show of the year'. Finally, visiting buyer Jacqueline Cox of Tapis Decor talks about what she hopes to discover at COVER Connect based on recent shifts in client buying behaviour.
