This is the first song we recorded with Laurel. Our good friend, Darin Di Pietro has a studio in his basement. We finished the instruments around midnight and she and I drilled the vocals sections almost out of the gate. Our rhythm section loved their first take, but did it again for posterity. Shane punched in a few guitar tricks; and here it is. Thanks, Darin.


Jackson

This song was originally recorded in the late 50s on Sun Records. Later, Johnny teamed up with Marty Stuart for an updated studio version, with Marty singing the first two verses and elaborating on the lead guitar. Cash played it live on The David Letterman Show while they were touring in the late 90s and it's killer. We like to use the song live with our June Carter, Heidi Anderson, singing Stuart's part. We also dig the theatrics of the "hammer" strikes in the final two verses simulating the main character of the song's manual labor inside prison.

We're a Johnny Cash tribute band from Tacoma, WA. The Sun Records classics to the Rick Rubin stuff. We've even got a June Carter chick that will blow your mind. We do Johnny Cash. And we do him well.
