Lyra Valenza is the project of Jens Konrad Barrett and Hjalte Lehmann, who've been putting out music since 2017. Having explored a variety of different styles and aesthetics over the years, they have since established themselves as a unique act in the contemporary electronic scene due to their singular and catchy blend of genres such as jungle, trance and techno – distilled into their very own sound. That Lyra Valenza’s sound is truly special is also evident from the recognition they’ve received from a diverse field of other acclaimed artists. Through the years, they’ve been supported by the likes of Caroline Polachek, Bill Kouligas, Courtesy and Rroxymore, who have played their music on different occasions. Their releases and high-energy live performances have also resulted in them being selected for the prestigious SHAPE Platform in 2020 as well as gaining them an ongoing residency at LYL Radio with their own label, Petrola 80. In addition to their radio show at LYL, they’ve also made mixes for, among others, Resident Advisor, NTS Radio, Rinse FM and Inverted Audio.

2023 saw the release of their long-awaited debut album, Low Gear No Pressure, which was released on Petrola 80, after having put out music on compilations through internationally acclaimed labels such as Courtesy's imprint Kulør, Opal Tapes and Posh Isolation. The album is a culmination of the many musical aesthetics on their previous releases and shows the group’s ability to create both energetic and addictive bangers as well as more laidback club tracks, always with a clear understanding of the synergy between the different compositions. Lyra Valenza is currently working on an ambitious international project, which is to be announced in late 2023, as well as two new releases. The duo is available for both DJ- and live-sets in 2024.

Fitting that a release bearing a title referring to an all-consuming state of infatuation would land on Valentines Day. Striking balance between soft and severe, ‘Limerence’ is a lament to unrequited love; a homage to the heart-broken among us.

Tugging hard on the heartstrings, our pick is no less tender for its restraint. String-fuelled, heart-in-mouth melodrama imbued with a sense of yearning.

‘Limerence’ is an album dedicated to the brokenhearted - for those whose hearts aren’t mirrored. The songs together are manifold, insisting on the variety of emotions that arise when you have a broken heart but at the same time do not see yourself as broken.

Sonically, the album deals with softness and hardness. It weaves these two together to create tension and release. Throughout the album whispering voices, field recordings, strings, and hard cold beats create the foundation for different feelings to unfold.

Following acclaimed underground releases on labels like Schacke’s imprint Moral Defeat, Katharsis and Perfect Aesthetics, Danish electronic musician Sortlegeme (the solo moniker of Jeppe Dalsgaard Andersen) returns with his most spellbinding work to date. “They Are Many” is an album of sprawling textures that like music in its most intuitive state captures the essence of the indescribable.

Built from polyrhythmic synth lines that surge towards sensory overload, “They Are Many” is equally full of subtle layers that emerge delicately from the foundations. In this ever-evolving sonic landscape, one senses the earthly, deliberate movements of tectonic plates colliding before settling into yet another million years of relentless grind. It's a soundscape that teeters on the edge of a total breaking point: a beautifully ominous foreshadowing of collapse.

Andersen reflects: “I was playing Starcraft at the time I made this music, and I think the Zerg was an inspiration and model for this kind of life. I was thinking about creeping and crawling things. The album reflects on the world humans might leave behind in our self-destruction and how opportunistic species might thrive in our absence, like weeds sprouting from the ashes of a forest fire. I was always big on post-rock, and this setup allowed me to do big buildups in that style.”

With “They Are Many,” Andersen fully embraces a departure from any rhythmic constraints in his music, allowing for expansive exploration throughout the album. While hope – or what is left of it – might seem sparse in the album's 45-minute journey, the music is punctuated by beautiful, voice-like melodies that are eventually overwhelmed by a noisy climax, leading to a profound numbness. The sensation is akin to synthesizers forging their way towards the void.

Andersen: “We as humans are often consumed by our knowledge, ethics, and complex systems, but sometimes it's important to remember that life's origin is pure survival. Our present culture is overly intellectual, and I find myself drawn to the instinctive, opportunistic aspects of life, much like a hive of smaller organisms operates, without conscious thought. We tend to view everything from our individualistic, single-body perspective, forgetting that the world's very essence is multiplicity.”

Having graduated from the Music Conservatory, their music counts with captivating vocals which guide your journey through their sensorial soundscape. Inspired by the likes of FKA Twigs and DJ Lostboi, Aria's work takes you into a deep emotional space with no rights or wrongs, only processes. Their recent album "Limerence" is an example of this, where heartbreak and its healings become a stepping stone with an intensity that is almost too hard to leave behind. As a collaborative album, it embodies Aria's ideas on co-creation and reworking music. During the episode, you will get to listen in on some of their previously released work as well as new singles where the artist reworks the boundaries of collaboration and inspiration.

Firing upon the engine. It is the commission of a just crime in favor of human skills. It is a revolutionary declaration of the act of walking. The oil stains the killer's arms and puts the car in a state of complete halt, forcing the passengers to walk. The engine is a signal of escape, and restraining the runaway means temporarily binding it. The spark plugs perform a crucial function, generating a spark to ignite the fuel-air mixture inside the combustion chamber. The heart of humanity is the spark plug inside the engine, it must be removed so it can stand still again. Carl Gari & Abdullah Miniawy step out of the way after spilling the engine oil.

The Egyptian-German collective, composed of Abdullah Miniawy, Till Funke, Jonas Yamer, and Jonas Friedlich, has been engaged in intensive collaboration after their initial meeting in Cairo in 2015. Earning critical acclaim from esteemed media outlets such as Pitchfork, NPR, Resident Advisor, and The Wire Magazine for albums like “Darraje,” “The Act of Falling from the 8th Floor,” and “Between the Bullet and The Front Sight, Casting Lots,” among others, they have showcased their unique sound at prestigious festivals and venues including the Institute of Contemporary Art London, Berlin Atonal, Haus der Kunst, Positive Education, and Rewire Festival.

Amphibian Records is teaming up with Carl Gari & Abdullah Miniawy to bring the first full album into the label's catalog.
