Our dear friends over at @awkscl and @sneakersocialclub were happy for us to share this powerful little live set from @willis-anne which he performed at their party on the 1st of May. We were so impressed and inspired to hear such unique rhythms! Is it footwork? Is it jungle? It's little bits of all of those and something entirely different at the same time. Willis Anne is an innovative composer and performer, taking us on a journey of beats with nothing other than his drum machine 🥁

Nez Jungle Mix May '22

Rhythmic rings and circuits of healing audiophony from a Finnish electronic composer @aleksiperala from his album "Cycles". Aleksi's music is prepared with a special tuning system that eschews traditional Western musical scales in favor of a series of resonant frequencies known as "Kolundi Sequence".

Recorded specially for Grains of Peace - recreational zone and charity marathon on Kyiv-based 20ft Radio to help Ukrainians who have suffered from russia's aggression.

Some history:

Fono One has come a long way since their humble beginnings tinkering on a basic drum machine and sampler in the mid-90s. Their passion for infusing dub, hip-hop, and house into their tracks has driven every project they've worked on, from bass-heavy live sets across the UK and Ireland in the 2000s to their later experimental compositions.

Their live dub sets caught the attention of Rudimentary Records, who released Fono One's debut EP "Meditation" in 2013. Collaborations with producers like G-Red and Tony Watters helped evolve their sound, leading to more signed and released tracks and DJ support from Rinse and Sub FM.

After winding down the live sets in the late 2010s, Fono One shifted focus to experimental composition techniques. They set up a home studio in Donegal, Ireland, resulting in a slew of self-released EPs and albums, a follow-up EP on Rudimentary Records, and a project of non-commercial, creative-commons-licensed music (2022).

But Fono One's music isn't just about beats and rhythms. Their tracks explore a range of themes, from refining musical responses to chance and probability to questioning how we observe time. Their music also considers the sound-system as an instrument, delves into isolation and memory, and pays tribute to long lost 20th century utopian ideas.
