Indeterminacy

From my first full length album, released in 2003. This track was written in San Francisco in 2001 and got caned by my colleague Cloudskipper pre-release. I never got to witness but by all accounts it made the crowd bonkers.

Definition

From my first full length album, released in 2003. For me the most radically playful track on this record.

Psykozome

From my first full length album, released in 2003. Written in my Nob Hill apartment in San Francisco with Reid Gershbein aka 75k, who was spinning a lot of hard house. Fond memories of this collaboration.

Something Bigger

Loose Ends

Beneath The Moon

From my first full length album, released in 2003. Title is an homage to DJ Cloudskipper. This was the first all-software produced track I ever made. "That's a lot of percussion," remarked an acquaintance--and not too kindly--upon hearing it .

Cirrus II

From my first full length album, released in 2003. Title is a reference to Bell's Theorem. A personal favourite for me, one of the most intense things I've ever done, but not to everyone's taste that's for sure!

Schrödinger's Cat

Live in the Lodge, Saturday night. Most material taken from my forthcoming release Code Complete, tracks I created using hand-rolled sequencers, synths, and improvising interfaces in Max/MSP. Tracks were then pre-mixed into composite tracks, and in performance these were mixed with live electronics over top.

Live at Gays Hate Techno Spring Gathering 2017

From the one and only EP release of Supernova Recordings out of San Francisco, ripped from my only vinyl copy, a test pressing. Supernova was a North American hardcore crew consisting of myself (as DJ Sketchy), DJ Cloudskipper,  DJ Tronic, and DJ Valerie Sparks. This track recorded in Simon Apex's studio in Sacramento, which was in the back of his record store, a mecca for California hardcore.

Prototypes is volume 1 of Code Complete, a series of techno albums for which I wrote all the software in Max/MSP, and then improvised on that software to lay down the tracks. On this record I experimented with a wide variety of coding techniques that were new to me, hence the title.

Autoludes is volume 6 of Code Complete, a series of techno albums for which I wrote all the software in Max/MSP, and then improvised on that software to lay down the tracks. 

On this record I rejigged the multiplayer software I'd written for my improv techno ensemble G Group, making it suitable for playing solo in the studio. The main feature of this software is the ability to sift random notes into traditional keys or modes, hence the more tonal harmonic scheme.

Operations originated as an audiovisual performance piece. My sound design goals were to explore FM synthesis, and be able to manipulate sequences on the fly. I took the live software into the studio and improvised the tracks on Operations 1 and 2 in about two weeks of sessions.

On this record I rejigged an iteration  of the multiplayer software I'd written for my improv techno ensemble G Group, making it suitable for playing solo in the studio. This software incorporated the sample set I had used on Orchestrion and Variations 1.
